We now have it so says the doctor.
Feels like the normal flu to me.
I just worry about my 8 month old getting it.

Its very unlikely to be flu mate, you certainly would not be typing on this forum if you had flu. Although I suppose it could be a mild case.

yup, most of my family got it. It actually outbroke in my town quite badly, 1 elderly man died of it but it has since passed.

I felt rough as hell for a week or so then I was all good Smile

I only spent 1 day of it completely bed ridden. I couldnt move, legs just gave way and neck felt floppy so i just stayed in bed to sleep. After that day I was moving around ok..

Well apparently there is set to be a second wave of infections due to strain mutation that is typical with such large scale flu pandemics. Especially when initial resistance is non-existent.

I hope people here realise that just because you've contracted swine flu once, does not mean you cannot be infected a second time by a strain variant. You will probably catch it again within the next year.

What's even more fantastic is that because of such widespread abuse of Oseltamivir (tamilflu) by individuals who don't actually need it, variants which have resistance to the antiviral are already being detected. The neuraminidase alteration required for the virus to be immune to the drugs effects only consists of a single amino acid substitution, and can therefore be passed on as prion like peptides from one sufferer to another. Coupled with Tamiflu reducing the body's capacity to develop broad spectrum resistance, it means that you can cause inverse epidemiological propagation (i.e increasing your risk of getting reinfected) by using it when unnecessary.

Effectively this can equate to multiple individuals getting infected, one of them using Tamiflu unnecessarily and the virus developing partial resistance which is then conferred to other individuals who are already infected but haven't even used the drug. Within a year the seasonal H1N1 virus already has a resistance rate of over 98% due to this behaviour. This really increases the mortality rate for susceptible individuals since they can't be treated with the antiviral.

No, but I'm residing in SoCal, and a couple of cases have been reported at my uni. So it's only a matter of time. Oh well.

Just don't be a pussy and use Tamiflu, it'll only increase your chances of getting reinfected in the future.

Well you develop broad spectrum resistance if you avoid using the antiviral. Since your body will have to fight off not only the original vector strain but also it's subsequent point mutation variants as it tries to adapt to your immune system.
