So here's the deal ... I have a Gainward Radeon HD 4850 GS (this) and it's cooler decided a couple of days ago to make a constant rattling sound that's getting on my nerves. I tried cleaning it, it was pretty silent for about another hour or two, then it started again. I gave up and started searching for a some aftermarket cooling. There are two coolers that look interesting, the Zalman VF1000 (a bit pricy) and the Arctic Cooling Twin Turbo (cheaper but difficult to find in stock here).

Do you have any other recommendations OR some kind of quick fix for the stock cooler?

just buy a decent fan (scythe 92mm pwm), remove the cover, remove the original fan, cut of the connectors of both fans and resolder/drill the original fans connector on the scythe one. glue the scythefan onto the cover and reinstall fan with cover.

works like a charm and your card wont be noticable anymore.

This whole procedure works best with gtx 260 gs / 4870 gs with 2 92 mm fans. they fit in perfectly on these cards, if <ou remove the coverplate.
