for fuck's sake, i'm the sole employee where i work at. we've lost enough business thanks to the economy and there are no jobs here, just what i need is to lose my job. so i write a letter to excuse myself from jury duty. well unbeknownst to me you have to get a letter from the judge excusing you. this was last week.
fast forward to this morning and i get a call from the courthouse asking me i forgot i had jury duty and i say no i wrote you a letter to be excused. they inform me that the judge didn't excuse me and i have to go RIGHT NOW. i say i can't go, i could lose my job and she says "oh well, come now or come when the police carry you up here" <---- talk about chapping my ass, OMFG if i could've spit fire through the phone
so i go and have to sit in the superior courtroom for a damn hour until the judge recesses for lunch, then they inform him i'm there to show cause for not coming. he explains that a warrant was out for me but he has dismissed it. says he got my letter, but it's everyone's duty to serve on the jury, even his from time to time and he excuses me this time but he's going to summon me again in Nov. now in this letter i explain to the dumb shit that i'm the only employee, and we have lost a lot of business lately to the economy and competition and that right now i just can't miss work, it could have a bad effect and cause me to have to close up. and his answer is "i understand you're a small business and times are hard, but it's everyone's duty to serve on the jury."
I WILL LOSE MY FUCKING BUSINESS OVER THIS SHIT what fucking part of that doesn't he understand? i have never wanted to inflict physical harm on someone like this before. real smart to let someone lose their job/business so they can be yet another burden on the tax payer over here and probably add to the crime level to make ends meet. cock sucker knows there are no jobs in this area right now.

There is something called jury selection process? Just say something either the prosecution or defense don't like, you will be exempted.

My moms gets these letters every few months, but she does not speak english and we check that box every time...yet she still gets them every now and then

yea supposedly, but they can take up to 5 days to select a jury. i dont have 1 day for that shit. i talked to a friend in a high place earlier and he said when i get summoned again to call him and he could maybe get the DA to dismiss me.
if that doesn't happen i will write that judge a very nice letter, and by nice i mean expletive filled. the way i see it is if i'm gonna lose my job and therefor not be able to pay rent and buy myself shit i need i may as well go to jail and go down in a blaze of glory. hell maybe even take him with me.
i can't stand that kind of lack of compassion. ol' boy knows we are a small town and a small mom and pop shop. how could you not give a fuck?

One can also ask to be exempted directly by the judge, by stating he has bias toward one of the sides. Happy about it or not, the judge, I think, is bound to exempt.

not even 1 single day off dude, because if i close up that's business lost or a phone call not answered. this place is closed on the weekends so i get saturday and sunday off but as far as a sick day, or any holiday other than the mainstream shit like easter, christmas and thanksgiving, that's it - no paid vacation, nothing. in addition to me doing my own repair business here it's also a small mom and pop isp that i work at. we have lost business left and right thanks to the local telco raping us on DSL charges and time warner bundling tv and phone with cable. so any time i'm not here is a time that the phone isn't being answered which could be a customer that gets irritated enough to hop ship and head to one of those other providers.
i'm in a transitional phase now where i'm hoping it can "morph" from the ISP into a straight up repair shop. i'm sort of piggybacking off of the ISP side right now since it pays the rent and lights while i get my act together and try to stir up business. if i have to close up for a week or 2 for some BS like that, that's another nail in my coffin. there's a whole drama filled story to back up that claim but i'll leave the wall of text typing to the shaman.
that's one of the things that chaps my ass, i can't get a day for me and i'm supposed to MAKE not one but hell, who knows how many for that kinda crap? some black guy driving with a revoked license who then provided the officer with a fake name and address and his lawyer was saying it wasn't fair, he didn't know he was in trouble because he never received the information that was mailed to him.
duh cause he committed a felony by giving false information to a law officer, hello??? am i the only one that saw the stupidity in that?

In the UK if you can show it would have a direct impact on your job/business you get excused, happened to me a few years back and as im the only person who can do my job i just showed the court my responsibilities and i was excused

yea it's supposed to work that way here too but for some reason the judge that summoned me thinks it's EVERYONE'S responsibility to be a juror.
if i wasn't opposed to faking sicknesses when he summons me again i'd reply that i was diagnosed with <insert some cancerous name here> and that i'm gonna be undergoing some chemo or radiation that week. be my luck he would check up on it and find out i was lying and that wouldn't go over to well.

i was called up when i was 19, but i happened to already have holiday booked those days and wasn't going to be in the country. made my case and they didnt do shit..

sorry mate but if you have a criminal record or ever been in trouble with the law you will not be called for jury service.. |
