I've been looking into EQ II myself. Hoping to find some folks who were in the beta who can tell me ahead of time if its worth getting or not |
Heres a summery:
WoW is for casual or in-between MMORPG players
EQ2 is for hardcore or experienced MMORPG players
If you dont have the time to invest, get WoW, you level faster, its more streamlined, and more user-friendly.
If you have plenty of time, get EQ2, it takes much longer to see the entire game-world, it has a longer "life" then WoW (at this opening release stage) , but you have to deal with SoE, so expect bugs and plenty or player-unfriendly nerfs and other bullshit from GM's and the like (which is already present in beta).
They are both good games, but tailor to different tastes.

I have a shorter summary for both games:
EQ2 is MMORPG for explorers.
WoW is MMORPG for PvP'ers (aka 1337 pvp kiddies, etc.).
I hate very much immature WoW (most of it from battle.net) community. This is the biggest factor why I doubt about playing WoW.
If I want to PvP I'll just grab Guild Wars, which has no monthly fee.
I'm EQ2 beta tester and the game is shaping nicely. Sony is optimazing very well. If I compare how it was a month ago and how it is now, now I get like 2 time more FPS with the same gfx settings. I'm pretty amazed how fast sony is fixing bugs in EQ2, they release patches with tons of fixes every week.

Yes, they both are optimized for casual gamer. Lineage 2 and games like Lineage 2, on the other hand, are for hardcore korean/chinese/japanese MMORPG gamers.

Who can participate in the final stress test and open beta test?
The final stress test and open beta are available for players in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United States.
And i prefer to slip into the WOW world for a few hours in the evening after work than being a lifeless shell like many EQ players became.
Its scary how sucked in many people are with EQ. Been there, you suddenly realize you lost hours of your life with actually doing nothing.

if you're not in america make sure to use an american proxy when signing up on the WoW site or on fileplanet, I did get in that way and I'm downloading the client from fileplanet, way faster than (capping my pipe) the p2p shit that downloaded 300 MB in 8 hours AND with CRC errors

The open beta starts in a week. Right now only File Planet Subscribers (paying for FP extra stuff) get to download and play the game early.
Though I wouldnt, my friends tell me that File Planet is having a very hard time keeping up with the number of people trying to play early. One of my friends has been waiting for his auth key for 12hours now... he might as well have waited for the actual open beta to start.

Great.
Being an Aussie, i've been waiting to get my hands on this for a long long while. Pity it starts in Halo 2 week (not to mention the plethora of other games that have come out in the past month).
Should be fun though.
