Hi,

I run a HTTP server app which manages my usenet downloads. It's called SABNZBD and it runs on the local machine.

I usually refer to the site it produces under my machines friendly name, e.g.

http://horrodee:8080/sabnzbd

However sometimes when I change wireless network, sabnzbd gets confused and I can no longer access via the above.

I have to find my new, dynamic IP address and type it in to the URL bar, e.g.:

http://10.54.131.34:8080/sabnzbd

This is annoying. Is there any function or param that you can use in a Firefox URL bar that will refer to the local machine's active internet IP address? e.g. something like:

http://$ip$:8080/sabnzbd

??

I couldn't find anything on the internet, and I couldn't find any plugins that will do this...

Thanks!

I had the same issue some years ago. There are websites that give you referal DNS-es for free. You just install a client on the server and you set a time to live, for example 1h or so. And then the program will 'phone home' to the DNS server and set your ip as fixed. and then you can enter your site always via mysite.thesiteidonotrememberanymore.com

It is a cheap ass solution but it works. I dunno the site anymore, but look around and you will find it.

BUT i didn't make myself clear enough in the first place, localhost has done the job!
