|
 |
I'm having the problem that due to WMP12 missing from the 7Tiny release, I can't get any of the Windows sounds to play, or any program's that uses the Windows wav and mp3 filters to play sounds, such as Windows Live Messenger.
Did anyone get around to solving that?

I wouldn't be using Tiny7 JBeckman, as I've had horrible experiences with things I wanted to work not being able to get them to work, such as Home Networking or Sounds, and Tiny7 isn't an exception.
Only reason I used it is because of the <1GB installation image and small post-installation HDD space required, due to wanting to install 7 on a small partition on my netbook using a 1GB USB stick.
That's why I'm trying to avoid using an unaltered image for now. I've fixed Home Networking by enabling the right services (Homegroup is still not working, nor are the Troubleshooters but I guess they both got removed to lighten the installation), and I'm looking to find a way to enable sounds again at least.
Wouldn't there be a way to bypass the codecs via a filter or to maybe download the Microsoft codecs from a non-Microsoft source? I know many people in the forums have Win7 installed, so maybe if I get the filenames someone could send them over.
EDIT: Weird thing though, the startup sound is played, some wavs like "Ding" can be played back via the Control Panel, and I also get the shutdown sound, but most other files I cannot playback via the Control Panel.

Ah I see, understandable as well, for the codec problems I think you should only need to reinstall WMP12 from Microsofts website (It's available as a download, should authenticate just fine if you have W7 activated via a loader.) to get the missing features and such back and as you said re-enabling the disabled services should work to regain most functionality aside from totally removed programs and features.
(The programs and features option via the control panel might work as well from the add/remove windows programs part although it might require a Windows 7 disc in order to install any missing things as it would require a source to install from.)

Windows Media Player 12 as a download on Microsoft's website? Could you perhaps point me to a link? Because as far as I know, Microsoft only has WMP11 for XP available to download. WMP11 for Vista and WMP12 for Windows 7 are only available through the installation, and maybe updated via Windows Update.
If you find however WMP 12 somewhere available for download, please do share the link.
The copy-paste downloads of Windows Media Player 12 don't work on my installation either. When I try to start WMP I get a message that it's not properly installed and whether I want to go to Microsoft's website to download it again, but the Windows 7 version of the page says there's no version of WMP available for download for my version of Windows.
Makes sense, maybe I'll have to wait for the public release of Windows 7, and grab Windows Media Player again from Microsoft's website.
An update, it's WMA files that have a problem being played, WAV files play normally.

Rev01 of the Tiny7 release now fixes the first release's problems, such as the MSDT.exe errors and the missing WMP codecs. Works great now.

File sharing was in since the first release, however there's no HomeGroup functionality.
