So I bought these off of gog.com and I had started playing the first one but something else I was looking forward to release came out. Is there a mod to stop the timer? Don't like being rushed to figure out a quest.

Trust me, you'll have more than enough time. I never got even near the end even with careful scrubbing of every location.

The only way to really reach the end is to aimlessly wander in the wasteland, back and forth. But that's no fun...

They altered it in a patch. I do remember playing the game when it was first released and hitting the timer.

I bought the original retail version (UK version tho, possible it was patched with that change already) and I never had problems even then... Granted, I never felt the need to fully explore the map and remove the fog of war, since on foot you moved so slow. But in FO2 with the Highwayman it was fun.

Patch changed the second timer to something like 13 years, or maybe that was prepatch and the patch removed it. You do have to beat the water chip timer of 200 days? Whatever it is, but after that you get plenty of time to go play on the map.

I'll leave this thread here for the two days of the giveaway on gog.com Talking about the timer, even Tim Cain said on the GDC that it was the one thing he'd change about the game, calling it a 'stupid thing to stress the player'. Educate yourself Give an internet to NFOHump!

I never minded it that much to be honest, but F2's approach is certainly preferable. Even if in one of my playthroughs the Chosen One got detoured a bit and took over 10 years to rescue his tribal pals and put an end to the Enclave.

Timer can be extended by making water transport to vault from one of the towns. I don't remember detail. Obtaining water chip was not that hard .

German version was cut to a point where some of the quests got borked,i remember that.
Nothing really gamebreaking but a joke compared to the uncensored version with dismembering

Not just that. The non-German Euro versions of both Fallout 1 & 2 had children as NPCs cut so you couldn't get the childkiller perk, and the drug references were changed to "chem(s)".

That's a million dollar question for Bethesda. Interplay finally lost the rights for the old Fallout games and Bethesda asked GOG to remove the titles from their catalog. As a big FU, we have this GA!
