Dead Cyborg

Quote:

Endre Barath has released the first episode of his indie project, Dead Cyborg. It's a first-person exploration game that's also a text adventure. With surprisingly good graphics and intriguing gameplay, it's worth looking into. Dead Cyborg follows the increasingly popular pay-what-you-want business model. You can download it for free, but if you'd like to give Endre some money in exchange for the game, feel free to do so.

Seems familiar somehow, maybe I heard about this game somewhere a while ago or something?

EDIT: Yeah I definitively recognize those screens.

I have no idea what I'm doing so far but I tested it a while and it definitively seems interesting, looks rather neat as well and runs good, unsure how it'll continue from here as I've not even read the help screen yet. (Seems required, haha.) but it will probably be fun, or bloody if that's how it works. Razz
(Ahh those death sequences of old adventure games, not that common to punish players in such ways anymore.)

EDIT: (Re-adjusted .bat file a bit to set different resolution output.)

Just a couple of random images, not that different from what's on the site but still, I tend to upload these sorts of pictures for some reason.

I don't expect much because it's made by 1 guy alone.

Prove me wrong indie developer Very Happy

One guy originally made "Minecraft" but that sort of a success is quite the exception. Razz

EDIT: Also this game has a somewhat crude control system for movement but it works though it's a but sluggish and slow but I don't know if that matters.
(I mean if I have to run from something or such with that above remark.)

EDIT: Exploring the area a bit and finding stuff to interact with (Mostly look at.) interesting descriptions and a somewhat mysterious setting, wonder what it'll develop into further in the game?

True, but minecraft's success depended on its gameplay alone.

On the other hand I think Dead Cyborg has to succeed in gameplay, story, presentation, atmosphere, etc. because of the type of game it is. Not (as) easily achieved by 1 person!

You're right, also the indie scene is rather competitive so it's not easy to succeed either. Smile
(A lot of projects and much that seems interesting but quality is rather varied also and marketing isn't as easy so any larger success is difficult to achieve just like that, or how I should best describe it in order to at least be somewhat accurate and correct.)

EDIT: Mount & Blade might be a better comparison perhaps though they've a studio now under a publisher but didn't it began rather roughly with one person behind it and his wife co-developing and supporting?
(Game engine and everything created by them, Minecraft being java based though of course also very custom made scripting and such to be fair.)

EDIT: Anyway more screens of some interactions.

Blender the modeling program alternative has a game engine (Or similar.) neat, didn't know that.
(Though I suppose blend.exe and the way it launches a specific map via that .bat file makes more sense now.)

All three are in the same room. Smile
(Specifically near a loose floor tile, dead body/reactor and the nano-web.)

Completed this earlier and it's a pretty OK start but it had a pretty weak ending with little being explained further aside from "fatty" himself. Razz

Controls suck, the game begs for mouse look!!

The visuals seem very nice but it runs bad on my laptop that I have with me for the summer, so I'll try it again in a couple of months on my desktop.

Oh well back to VVVVVV it is!

On his website he says:

Quote:
-Why no mouse control?

-This is a low paced adventure game without action. You will be OK with the keyboard control.
(Note: you can try a gamepad, just map the keys to the gamepad buttons... I think this is possible.)

I don't think he's going to implement mouse look..

It's not comfortable but not that bad after some minutes of play, the game itself is quite easy but enjoyable so far (a bit rough obviously Smile )
