hi guys i recently built a comp for a friend of mine

and he keeps getting this error when playing a game

mostly after an houre of play, sometimes faster
weird thing is when i first tested it with assassins creed it didn't have this problem

Specs are:

asus P5Q SE2
nvidia GTX 270
intel Q9550

i tried cleaning and reinstalling latest drivers

could this maybe be PSU related?

any help would be appreciated

This problem is usually hardware-related, most probably the gfx card is overheating, check the temps !

thing is the card needs two black connectors from the PSU, but his PSU doesn't have those.
so i took two splitters and connected it to 4 regular ones... could it be that the GPU is not getting enough power?

It could be. Graphics cards like the GTX270 need a serious amout of amps from the 12V rails, and maybe the combined power of the four regular connectors taking power from some other rail of the PSU is just not enough juice for games.

If your drawing off rails that are not intended for the output for gfx cards, then you are/will be consuming power dedicated to the mainboard and other things lol, that will no doubt shut down the culprit hardware that is causing the drain..

Get it put on the correct plugs/rails, for what it needs.. If its a good psu there should be info pertaining to how or where you can connect it to on spare rails.. That is if the psu has that option..

Otherwise dedicated psu areas to plugin your card must be used, its there for a reason.

p.s I wouldnt have you build me a house of cards lol Very Happy
