don't jump me for asking and I feel a bit stupid about it because I used to know this myself but can't for the life of me remember it, but can you reg a normal XP professional with a corp key to make it corp or does it still have the activation thing?

I am not 100% sure (about 99%), but I think the type of Windows XP is determined at setup. So in order to use a corporate key, you'd need something like NTSwitch to switch from one license to another.

erm, I think I didn't make this as clear as I should have Smile I don't have this XP pro installed. What I wanna know is, can I install this XP pro and use the corp key to skip the otherwise mandatory activation.

Also, I remember that the home and pro versions are different, meaning you can't just upgrade from one to the other by changing the key. AFAIK this only works with vista.

Depends on what ISO you have. The installation CD has all the versions in it, but it is artificially locked to only accept the key that was meant for that SKU (unlike Vista). It is possible to modify an XP ISO to make it as if it was an ISO of another SKU, but I don't remember how to do that anymore. If you have an XP Corp ISO, then you can use it. If you have a retail XP ISO, then you can't without modifying the ISO or downloading a corp ISO.

BTW, it is also possible to jump from Personal to Professional [to Server] after installation with NTSwitch. Smile

Am I missing the part where you said why you couldn't just download a corp version in the time it took for these responses?

asus z170-A || core i5-6600K || geforce gtx 970 4gb || 16gb ddr4 ram || win10 || 1080p led samsung 27"

Yeah you are, because if I could find one thats untouched AND in the language I need, I wouldn't be asking now would I?

Leo: Really? A buddy of mine told me he tried installing a home version and regging it with a pro corp key and it wouldn't let him install with that key.

Just find version from NFO section and you don't need to bother yourself with any activation or serial.

Yes, it's not as simple as that. You first have to use a tool like NTSwitch to convert it to Pro (from Home).

check the i386 directory for setupp.ini and change the pid's last 3 digits to 270 and you've got a corp volume cd.

Won't work if the disk was made for XP Pro Retail. You have a Corporate "untouched SP3 pro install cd" in which the VLK key is accepted. Doing what Caveman said will make a Retail CD accept VLK keys. Smile

Guys,

I managed to get that shitty pc/mainboard working but it would only install for some reason a non streamlined sp3 OS,, I had to use a first XP PRO disc I had from way back when I used to use it for installs, that installed, and i installed sp2.

Now I used a key that worked for first few updated before installing sp2 and then it bugged out with region was wrong geo lockdown bullshit etc etc..

I freq many sites keznews etc and digital life, but for the LIFE of me I cant make a choice on what I should be using.. I had written down a key begun GHH etc etc lol that was a great student key but the woman threw away the paper I had it on and I never put it on pc txt file Sad

I tried google to find what I had again but its just not showing up anymore, its like its been removed lol.. Whats my best bet regarding validating XP Pro right now with sp2 installed, cause there seems to be too many variants and too much info of late for cracks etc..

Thanks...
