I've currently got a 8800GT which is struggling now with the latest games, i 'm on a very limited budget so is it worth getting anything below a GTX 285??
Which card would be a good buy without breaking the bank..
Cheers

get 260 instead, it's cheaper and about same lvl
what games really put your GT to it's knees? if it's ghostbusters then it run like that on 260 too, just coz some pc games are unoptimized turd doesn't mean u need to upgrade

I had to make the same decision as you, had an 8800 GTS 640 and yes those 8800 cards are beginning to struggle. I got myself the Zotac GeForce GTX 275 AMP for only 220€ last week, its a lot cheaper than the GTX 285 but just as fast. It has 128mb less vram than the 285, and I don't know how this is going to affect performance in future games. But if you ask me, I doubt that both 896 or 1024mb vram will be enough for games in 2011/2012. And I personally don't think its smart to buy something as expensive as a GTX 295 now, since DX11 games will be out sooner or later, maybe in 1-2 years.
Here are some benchmarks:

your main problem is 2gb especially if u use vista, it's just won't cut it, ram is so cheap these days it's a crime not to get an xtra at least 2 gb, i would get 6 just to be on the safe side
also i'd suggest to get quad cpu as well, arma2 is mainly relying on cpu power
make sure your psu can take all that otherwise u have to upgrade it as well

Get, GTX260, 275 or 285. All will give you a huge performance boost in GPU heavy games. Especially if you play at 1680x1080 or 1920x1200, 8800GT doesn't cut at those resolutions.

GTX 295, you can find it for some 80-100 euro more than the GTX 285, but the diference in performance justifies it, it really runs faster than 2 GTX 285 in SLI.

i can play it at 1600x1200 fine with full detail with postprocessing off (ugly and laggy) and fillrate at 100%
the game looks damn fine

will look into overclocking later

I had an ASUS 7800GTX. I had bought it for 525 euros some years ago, lol !
Now, it's so used, dirty and yellowish, I put it on my desk while playing Fallout 3, adds to the atmosphere.

Correct me if i'm wrong but isn't it pointless getting above 4gb memory as xp,vista and win7 can only access 4gb of memory unless you go the 64bit route?
