The Metal Age for me - it had a more coherent and better level design (excluding the last level, I hate it). TDP is of course a classic as well, but there's fewer levels with proper sneakery and pilfering of shiny loots.

yeah , i thought about that while i was away ..
but i guess some just posted the last option even if they don't have a fucking clue about the games . it's like saying System Shock 2 is a piece of shit and Halo is better .
should have added Thief Gold too |

Definitely in the minority here, but I prefer T3- Deadly Shadows, mostly because of the atmosphere (The Cradle, anyone?)

Deadly Shadows was really marred by ridiculously small sections of world to fit puny consoles. It was very annoying and heavily degraded the experience. 
BTW, anyone who chose "the series sucked ass aka none", please go play your CSS, kthxbye.
