Hi there smart guys and girls,

I'm looking into something for a friend of mine, he has had troubles with his computer for over 2 months now. It usually occurs when he's playing World of Warcraft, but it hasn't been limited to it so far.

It comprises his desktop monitor to simply fail and show a variety of colors and stripes. As you can see, that exactly what happens is kindof hard to describe. His computer doesn't respond to any commands he seems to give, and after a reboot it's gone until it occurs again, not after a fixed time or command or game. It's just random.

I've promised to help him about a bit and we've checked the usual. He uses an Ati Radeon 2600 XT, runs windows vista ultimate and has 2 gigs of ram. He never had this problem before with his old pc-setup, but since he bought his new machine from a friend it occurs.

As said I've checked the usual; the vid-card isn't overheating. The drivers are now up to date, but it still seems to occur. Changing graphic settings in world of warcraft doesn't prevent it from happening as well. I mention World of Warcraft in this cos' this is pretty much the only game he plays, and during other uses the computer doesn't seem to show this problem.

There is also no error message when the problem occurs, the screen doesn't go black either. Nor does he receive a blue screen. It seems like his monitor or videocard is just giving up, and after a reboot it works fine and dandy for indefinate time.

So i'm posting this over here to see if anyone of you can help me out with this problem, what could a possible cause be, or can i check other things out to clarify the problem.

Thank you in advance.

- Sjnuff.

I would bet on it being the graphics card. Try another card and see if the problem is still there.

Ryzen 5 5600, ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING WIFI II, Corsair Vengeance RGB RT 32GB 3600MHz C16, MSI RTX 5070 Ti Ventus 3X OC , Corsair RMx Series RM750x. AOC AGON AG324UX - 4K 144Hz 1ms

Propably the card's fault. Test with another card to be sure.
