|
 |
Sooo.
Newest addition to my apparently everlastion struggle with eletronic devices!
An hour ago suddenly the power went out. I was like "wft?" (once again...) and after searching around a bit I found out that my PC blew the fuse and it wouldn't start anymore.
So I took the PSU from my parents computer (which is basically my old one) and hooked it to mine and well it wouldn't start up all correctly but that could be because my graphics card needs an extra power hookup and the PSU has about 100W less than mine.
So, if I'm lucky I need a new PSU what if I'm unlucky?
I suppose everything else could be fried.
Well, gonna get myself a new PSU tomorrow and see from there.
btw. the PSU was two years old and just barely beyond the warranty

But ok I'm guessing you did that.. but please elaborate a bit on " it wouldn't start up all correctly". |
yikes, that's what happens when I post without reading the post through again
Let's try that again shall we?
My PC was up and running. Everything fine and dandy.
Then all of a sudden the power went out (because a fuse in my fuse box blew).
After switching stuff back on one after the other I put the cable of my PC back into the socket and BAM fuse blew again.
After that the fuse didn't blow again but my PC wouldn't start up anymore at all.
So I exchanged my PSU with the PSU from my old computer (which has 100W less and misses that nifty extra plug for PCI-E graphics cards).
And lo and behold! The PC started up again but my monitor didn't give me a picture and now I'm hoping this is because of the lack of power my PSU puts out because otherwise my graphics card could be fried.
Again, I'm just hoping that only my PSU got fried an nothing else, as in, graphics card, mainboard, cpu, RAM, HDDs.
Well, I hope this is a bit more comprehensible now
@AwE:
If it's only the fuse and the PSU I don't mind
btw. the fuse I already did replace.

I've heard the smell of a burning Cpu is quite creepy and scary
1 and 2 are still amazing.

It's all good until those devices turn and try to kill you (comp says to hair drier to toss itself into bath while it's plugged in, and you are relaxing from hard day of gaming )

If your not getting any board lights or pwr at all from a psu that you know runs when plugged into the mains, you better start thinking the worse ....

New PSU installed. System seems to run fine.
Now, if I wanted to check my other hardware (ie. hdd and graphics card - maybe RAM) what application(s) could/should I use (with reliable results that is)?

A Be Quiet! BQT-E5-500W
basically the predecessor to this one
http://www.be-quiet.net/be-quiet.net/index.php?StoryID=220&websiteLang=en
which is the one I'm using now.
Don't know, for the last 5 or 6 years I've been only using Be Quiet! PSUs in the systems I've build (which were about... 5 iirc) and this is the first one that crapped out.
