Well if you bothered to click any of those links, you would have seen that a couple of those link to non existing thread and the rest is more like "yeah, I got a video here where I do some shit bla bla bla"
I never said that I hadn't found anything, just nothing that helped me Wink

Right now this mostly concerns people cracking the ps3, so if you don't already know what this is about or what it means then it's not something that would benefit you either.

Sounds like the same way (libtiff exploit) that was used for the psp.
libtiff is used by programmers to display tiff images ...
so if you are able to find out an exploit looking at the libtiff source code you can try to create manipulated tiff images that will then execute custom code.
Would be great if the ps3 would be hacked for good - but I think they will just add some more protection measures with the next games and firmware etc.

However its nice to see that some guys are actually still trying to hack it...
would give ps3 sales a boost Wink (HEAR THAT SONY!!!!???)

If it's the same exploit that was used for the PSP, it still doesn't mean you will have the same possibilities, because it's a different hypervisor and system. But we'll see I guess. I certainly am not remaining hopeful.

2.76 is another rubbish update I might add Laughing

I doubt it will give them the sale they're hoping for. They need to slash prices.

Btw this is an excellent editorial I read a while back. Wholeheartedly agree with it.

If PS3 was hacked I would buy it right now. I'm getting one anyway when God of War 3 is out and will use it only for the best exclusives, just like most people.

Oh well, I'd have tried it out myself, but I don't have a ps3. I'm just beginning to look into these things now, as theres a chance I might get one.

The cost to pirate PS3 games would be too much right now. The bandwidth required is massive, plus the very expensive media/burner is a major negative.

Thats technically not a problem. A compressed image file wouldn't be much more than a 360 image in some cases - maybe twice as big? and if they got it loading from an external hdd, there wouldn't be a problem regarding burning blurays!

You couldn't be more wrong. Just because all PS3 games are on bluray doesn't mean they are all 50GB in size. 25GB bluray blank media is pretty cheap btw, 8 euros a pop or so (and that's hell of a lot cheaper than a game itself).

As soon as a HDD-loader appears, or even a way of playing BR backups - I'll definitely get a PS3.

To be honest i'm not bothered if it never gets cracked, i use my xbox360 for copied games and any games that are ps3 exclusive and good i buy, i have grown to like the ps3 alot more than when i first bought it and it's great for streaming hd content via ps3 media server.

Don't mind buying the good games and it makes me feel better about pirating all those other games lol Wink

Is there any reason to get PS3 with more than 40GB hdd? I would only use it to play PS3 games, nothing else. I don't care about its shitty backwards compatibility (got my awesome PS2 for that) or storing movies on it etc.

nope.

don't think there are any differences between the 40gb and 80gb ones (like at the launch, when only the 60gb one had hdmi and and a chrome front for the drive)

standard 40gb gives you 37gb usable space from fresh. If you have home on it that will take up around 3gb of reserved space in itself but if you didn't install it you really wouldn't miss much at all.

If only using the ps3 for games you will be fine and you can easily store quite a few games on it. I did upgrade my ps3 from a 40gb to a 400gb HDD recently which may be a little overkill, but thats only because I got fed up with the inconvieniance of constantly deleting and reinstalling games (which I found very slow and laborious as the standard HD drive is quite slow: 5400rpm) and I like to store ripped bluray movies on the ps3 too which take up a huge chunk on a 40gb ps3...

Installing games on the PS3 does take up a fair bit of room though (ie:MG4 took about 5gb in itself without the online expansions, Hawx was about 4 gb, PES was 4gb Soulcalibur 4 around 2.5gb if I remember correctly... not including the PSN store bought games and demos which also take up some room. Depending on how you use your PS3 you may find 40gb quite limited in the long run but it's more then adequate all depending on how you use the console.
