Depends on what you want.

I just bought "Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand recently but haven't yet come around to read it.

My girlfriend is bugging me to read "The Gun Seller" by Hugh Laurie which is apparently very good.

A book that's always good to just pick up is the "Necronomicon" basically a collection of most (if not all) stories by H.P. Lovecraft.

I've recently read the first two books of the Otherland Saga by Tad Williams and since I'm a big William Gibson fan I sure am liking what I read there Very Happy

"Weaveworld", "Cabal" and "The Thief Of Always" by Clive Barker are very good (or basically anything by Barker is pretty good if you like his style of horror).

Couple months back I read Obama's book "Dreams From My Father" which was pretty interesting and partly emotional touching book.

What I am reading (and trying to collect) is the complete Perry Rhodan line of books. Very Happy
It's a pretty epic space opera (I think that's what it's called)
By now it spans over 2400 pulp booklet releases so it's pretty huge.
Been running since the early 60's and therefore, if you can't stand science fiction from that time better avoid it Very Happy

And then everything written by Michael Stackpole. Pretty solid fantasy books.

Already read Ender's game and Necronomicon. I guess I'll give The Gun Seller or something by Stackpole a whirl. I can't stand horror, so I'll skip Barker and Co. I guess. Keep the recommendations coming, I read books pretty fast Smile

The Battletech novels are good (but not the later MechWarrior novels. I couldn't get into them because the earlier state of the unvierse as it was in Battletech was just cooler ^^)

The Wheel of time novels are good aswell.

Terry Pratchett books go without saying.

Illium and it's sequel Olympos.
The Hyperion Cantos
To a Lesser extent, the Endymion Cantos.

All by Dan Simmons, an absolute genius in my opinion. They're all epic scale operatic Sci-fi but they have influences from every genre imaginable. All of them are LotR length, so you can't expect to read through them in a weekend.

In Illium and Olympos there are some highly scientific abstract concepts dealing with quantum mechanics, metaphysics and Planck relations but an understanding is not necessary to enjoy the story. If you like stretching your intellect, look here.

I also recommend 'The Culled' by Simon Spurrier', so much character in that book, and although it's not complex by any means, it is both highly unpredictable and has a gritty sense of realism. Lots of violence, swearing, drug abuse, sex and other morally dubious things, in fact I would say it reminds me a lot of Fallout 2 in style.

Seconded. Get the Hyperion Omnibus and the Endymion Omnibus, then continue with Illium and Olympos to read them chronologically.
In the same vein I might also recommend Revelation Space and the continuing books in that series, I've only just completed Revelation Space but so far so good, they're about the same things as Dan Simmons books; transhumanism and various sub species of humanity.
AnimalMother: I will get The Culled from amazon next week, thanks alot for that - Love the wasteland/ fallout universe.

Got em all and still read them occasionally. Some fucked up stories in those books.

Syco, you'd probably like 'The Culled' too, the melee violence is well described. With the main character having trained in the special forces and certain practical martial arts, plus being an absolute nutter, it makes for some excellent eye gouging, scrotum ripping and ankle shattering confrontations. Wink

No, it's not Clive Barker. It's written by a comic book author (Simon Spurrier), some sort of post apocalyptic story.

Thanks.
Wrote both the name of the book and the author down. Smile Now lets see if I can find it at my local, shitty book store.

@deelix

The Bible is a good read man. Great story. Sex, violence, murder, incest, rape etc
Best work of fiction to date imo

They're actually my favourites, but I couldn't read them as an e-book. It's a seriously long story when both titles are read as one, and my eyes start to hurt after I look at a screen for too long. Hope it doesn't detract from your enjoyment.

I really like the Revelation. But then again I just see it as a book not as some religious piece to follow by the word

Exactly. Revelations is a great horror sort of read. Maybe horror isnt the right word, apocalyptic is more fitting.

Still, the Old Testament is full of blood. And the New Testament isn't bad either.

The Bible is a good read. Like I said, its got sex, blood, war, incest, horror etc in it.
Again, like I said, its one of the best works of fiction to date.

@best

Not toilet paper, rolling paper bud. I've smoked so many pages of the bible through my years lol. Especially in school. Had no papers....grab the bible of the shelf, rip out a page and spin a joint so its ready to smoke after class. And Bible paper burns so well.
I know guys who will only smoke bible paper....no zig zags (reg papers).
