I am sitting at home right now just dreading the thought of going into work.
I had a really bad experience Last wed night with a customer. He was really off. Sweating really bad and the sweat was falling onto the inside of his glasses. He was weirdly nervous, and jumpy.
He walked in and went straight to the back counter behind the cash desk and started flipping though our catalog, avoiding my coworker. He wouldn't look up or anything.
When I came onto the floor he glanced up and made eye contact, and I asked him if he needed help. So I started to help him. Aparently he was buying for his exwife, and his story got more and more werid. Like he was making it up on the spot. He wasn't interested in anything I had to show him.
Told me he wanted to buy something for her so he could get laid. Hadn't had sex in over 2 years, hadn't seen her in over 2 years. That her boyfriend was prob going to beat him up, said something else about drugging wine, some other creepy stuff. After a while I left him alone, and he goes back to the counter and back to the catalog. He was shaking badly. It sounded like he was stalking her. Then he leaves. I said to my coworker if he comes back I think we have a problem. There are only 2 of us girls, in the store and it is a street access store, not a safe mall. The other staff I work with are really young too, all very pretty, very small girls.
about 20 mins later he comes back, straight to the counter again, to the catalog. I said "oh, you are back" but left him alone. He is even worse. Now the customers are nervous, watching him. Then he leaves and says to me he needs models to try stuff on and does a pelvic thrust. It was weird.
Now we think he is casing the place. Coming back in and out and telling his partner who many girls and working, how many tills we have, This is what they do before they rob you and it is a huge problem in our area, they come in with masks and guns. This even happens in restaurants and they rob eveybody.
About 30 mins later he comes IN AGAIN and back to the counter to the catalog. We watched him and ignored him.
Now I am ringing in some customers and they are watching him, asked me "does he work here?" I said no, never seen him in my life. They then said "something is wrong with the guy" I am like "ya, I know and we aren't happy right now" The customers then said "This is really dangerous"
Anyway he starts writting something on a piece of paper and then comes over to me and hands me his name and number. His name is steve then leaves. We watched him leave the parking lot in a older catalac car.
When he left his number I was actually relieved that was all it was but then I was like "wait a minute, fuck he is like stalking me now? My coworker said it was like he was waiting for me or something. I leave at 9:30 pm and have to walk to my car in the dark. I work alot of late shifts. Now I am worried. I think he is a sicko.
I don't know but I still think he was going to rob us. That his behaviour was so off because he had someone (gang) making him do this. They were using him or something and him passing me his number was a distracting technique to get our guard down. That was why he was so nervous.
The thing is, if someone is so nervous and about to have a panic attact they get the hell outta there. They don't come back 3 times.
We have had this happen before with another guy, he just took stuff tho, but he did assualt 2 other women that same night from 2 different stores. they confronted him and he hit them so my fear is real.
My heart is pounding inside my chest so bad it hurts with the thought of having to work late. Every noise I hear makes me jump, every time a male walks through that door my heart skips a beat thinking it is him.
I work at a store that is basically Canadas version of Victoria Secret. Victoria secret actually owns 50% of us.
I have to leave in abit and I wrote this fast so the spelling sucks

he's just a crazy guy. if someone would wanna rob a place, they would try to attract as less attention as possible, so i'd rule that scenario out.
having some mace under the counter should be enough to feel safe when idiots like that come in the store.

He will prob never come back. I just can't stop thinking about it but I know I should and just move on. I think tomorrow I am going to the doctor and getting some adavan (sp)

he was old , young ? 25-35 ? hair type , we know he whore glasses but what kind cheap or expensive ? how was he dressed ?

pistol: Sounds like an unstable personality, the best thing to do with these type of people is to kindly ask them to leave, never "increase" the "threat level". Just tell him that he is not welcome. I think he's checking your store out, what number of employees and if he would be at risk if he would try something.
I would definitely take this seriously, especially considering that he came back three times and met no "resistance" and thus felt it was safe enough to get back three times. Are there any stores nearby? If so, contact them and get their number so if something happens someone can call them and so you can get some quick support if needed. Cops is good too I guess, but they usually show up too late and are busy eating donuts and harrassing people in the street who "look wrong".
If there are several stores in your street, I would pool up and have eachother's numbers to just be there for people like this.
edit: You live a little bit way too far off for me to come and sit in your store and play tetris until he comes back (cause he will).
I also think fisk should be unbanned.

If he is crazy enough a gun wouldn't scare him that much.

screw the gun, it doesn't help you that much anyway during a surprise attack, especially if you're not trained. and a 9mm doesn't stop someone in close combat. plus it can be turned against you or he could pull his own.
simply get a pepper spray - not the shitty water pistol style stuff, but the (russian?) ones that produce a big cloud. even if you don't need it, you'll feel at least a bit safer when carrying it.

Its funny you should mention this actually. My GF works in a womens shop aswel and they have a similar problem.
Theres a guy who hangs around the starbucks opposite the shop almost every day with a coffee, watching the girls in the shop. At first I just said I think they are paranoid, he looks pretty normal. But what is funny is that he buys the coffee, but doesnt touch it.. he just sits there staring into the shop.. I watched him for a good 15 minutes and he didnt touch his coffee once, they where right.
Also, about a week ago the 'shopping center' where the shop is located asked all store managers to make their female staff aware of a mystery caller who phones up asking to talk to the youngest member of staff to suggest some clothing for his 'young daughers birthday'.. they think its the same guy. This douche calls up almost every day with the same damn question worded differently. One of the new members of staff at her work wasnt aware of it and spent 10 minutes talking with the guy.. he said he would come into the store for a better chat + the lass thought nothing of it. so she didnt say anything to anyone. the next day, who turns up? the fucking guy from starbucks, and hes all weird at the counter asking my GF really random + weird questions. She called me on her dinner break so I came to pick her up..
The thing is, there isnt really much the police can do as he isnt making physical or threatening gestures. And the questions he asks arent particularly sexually explicit, just really questions you would ask someone you have known for years, perhaps intimately and such.
Anyway.. getting to the point, The best thing you can do is just ignore it. This douchebag and his type of people usually shit themselves at the thought of confrontation, he probably has all these fantasies in his head that you talking to him was actually you flirting with him rather than just giving him help as a customer. As long as you dont get too involved talking to him, it will remain a fantasy. These kinda guys are usually just basement dorks with a porn addiction + a weird taste for asking pretty girls innuendo questions..
Btw, if push ever did come to shove, kick / knee the motherfucker in the balls, no matter how big he is he will go down hard.

If he did come back again, the best thing you could do is phone the police and tell them there is someone in the shop acting suspicious. Do not confront him and if he did try and rob you, just give him whatever he asks for. Its not worth loseing your life over it.

I'm thinking assault, possibly sexual in nature, is more probable in this case than simple robbery. Sorry if I'm scaring you pistol, but that's what strange men who stalk women manning counters at a woman's clothing store are usually after. Call the police. It's their job to handle this kind of crap.

What is it with people's unfounded trust in the police. 95% of the police force are bullied kids who grew up and now have guns. And now are on penis powertrips. If they're needed for something serious, like this; they don't show up until someone is raped, windows are crashed and the store is burning. And then only to talk to journalists and say "here, look at my face, I'm important cop, on important business, now go away this is important".
Then they impose their bullied little egos on people who have fuck all to do with the crime (like bystanders), and accomplish diddley squat. Best case is if rape was combined with homicide, because then there's someone who's less of a douchebag who takes care of shit.
I really think you should use your friends/people in other stores to help you. But don't get a gun, if you would defend your life against one of these douches, chances are some cop will get an idea, feel threatened (coz he gets some memory from when some girl beat him up and he pissed his pants when he was in pre-school) and shoots you.
A year ago the police pulled over a car in Sweden, the driver had been speeding - and one of the policemen thought he held something "suspicious" in his hand (which turned out to be a car key) and shot him in the neck. Fucking yahoo's, turned out the guy was speeding because his wife had been in an accident and he was desperate to get to the hospital. Instead he became a cripple, and she had some bruises.
Moral of this rant? 95% of all cops wear diapers because they wet themselves and can't be bloody trusted to help people with REAL problems.

The thing is that restraining orders don’t work. It is just paperwork. Sometimes they can make a situation even worse, they just antizonise the guy and make him to something back. To some weirdo’s it is like a game of chess to them. In the moment when he decides to do something the police are not around. They do provide evidence if something foul happens to you.
I have been stalked before many years ago and that was my experience. Every time I called in it just made him worse. Every reaction caused a reaction in him because after all he was just driving by my house and alley on his way to school. It is good advice tho. Sometimes they do work.
I am one of the 2nd managers. The main manager was very understanding. She reminded me of the security number, the police... blah blah blah. She has little experience in this. She did everything she was suppose to.
I had to call the security people today. We had a black getto gang setting off these mini explosives in our parking lot. Turns out they were smashing rocks on those cap rolls which sounds like a gun going off. Security never came but they did thank me for calling in.

That is not always the way it works. Trust me I know, been through this before. They send a guy in, like a mole who watches and reports back with information. Usually he is someone in debt or owes them something, a weak one. Then the main ones make their move based on THAT information. The guy that came in wouldn’t be part of the robbery. He is just used for information and you can’t prove that in court unless they are using he consintly and it is a pattern. Plus alot of these guys don’t think that far ahead.
My honest opinion is that he wont come back

I can’t have mace. It is illegal and this is a corporate store, I would lose my job. I wanna put it in my purse but we have bag checks to make sure we aren’t stealing.

I hope so. He hasn’t been back since. I am thinking tonight ( I worked til 9:45 and it is dark) that he won’t be back.

Clean cut sort of. I think he was about 36-38 or so. Average glasses, average weight. I peg the guy as a tool!!!!!!!!!!!! He wasn’t to interested in the lingerie. It was weird some other motive I can’t place.

Ya he is totally unstable. I think YOU REALLY GET IT!!!
When you said he met no “resistance” you were totally correct. That is what what scares me. There are stores beside us, it is a bit of an outside strip mall. All women stores, plus a teen-age store. I am going to call them next time, sometimes I am so busy tho with demanding people and my skelton crew of 2 workers vrs 15 customers I can’t do this. You pick up that phone and they eat you alive. These are some self aborbed vain women.
I did my job with him, gave customer service, tried to make the store money. At the same time I was confident, almost confortational at the end. He didn’t get it.
We had prob’s during christmas because of this. The only reason why our store was safe one other time was because one of our girls had her husband in the parking lot waiting to pick her up, watching everything from the outside. We (in the store) had no idea what was happening outside.

Wtf mace illegal? That's bullocks! You should always have one in your purse or sth, that thing can really confuse the possible attacker, giving you time to kick him in the balls... Try to hide it in a pocket in a jacket or sth like that. I wouldn't care about that corporate shit, safety first!
This really sucks for you. If you have some friend that would pick you up when working untill night or sth like that it would be good thing to do imo... I really hope things will work out and that the creep will disappear...

Report it the Police Pistol, simple as that. Say what you wrote and they will take action cause it is suspicious.
And Pistol, not to be rude, the store you work at isn't Canada's version of Victoria's Secret. They may own half, but its not.
We have Victoria Secret Stores in Canada. My girl shops there all the time.
Still, thats irrelevant.
I don't want to see you get hurt or anything so report this to the police. Better safe than sorry Pistol

Pepper Spray/Mace isn't illegal. Even certain taser's aren't illegal. Gotta check with the cops on the tasers tho.
But I know pep spray isn't illegal. Quite a few of my female friends carry mace. |
