I thought this would be an easy answer for google but I can't seem to find it...

a lot of non-scene xvid releases (basically browsing a.b.mm.horror) give this fucked up looking picture on my standalone

1) why
2) can I tell before I burn it
3) can I fix it

yeah, I was thinking about just getting a WD TV box for my bedroom since it's only $150... we've been using this 15" sammy monitor with tv tuner for our bedroom tv for a while now, but since we've moved the cable signal isn't strong enough to be split for more than the main TV and internet (also waaaaaaay too far to run a cable from the computer). Actually I should think about finding a dirt cheap 32" 720p as well but I need a solution in the meantime since maybe 30-40% of the xvids I get seem to have this problem.

any suggestions on the fastest way to re-encode without qpel? one-click, and quality doesn't matter much since it's for a small screen.

u can just get some slim version of p3 with wi-fi and it will stream/play any video/audio file or xbox with xbmc just like that and will probably cost u no more than 30$ , same as any regular stand alone divx player

any avi convertor will do the job

fast is important so a more specific recommendation is appreciated. I don't want to wait hours for this shit to convert, and an increase in size isn't a big deal.

I have no experience with xvid shit, just dvd->dvd5 with auto-GK is about it for me, and then, I haven't even done that in a few years Smile

hmmm this says no qpel ... (on the far right qpel is not lit up)

and yes, that is an incredible crappy movie that I'm attempting to watch, but still probably better than 'The Spirit' Razz

this link says it's GMC or something related :/

the "smearing" effect is GMC and/or use of non-compatible mpeg-4 matrices, or mixing certain ones in 1st/2nd pass.

EDIT: SUCCESS!!!

I found someone saying they had the same issue with a Philips player, and that for whatever reason going into the system menu and exiting (while movie is playing) fixes it.

and shit, that actually worked for some reason Surprised
