Spoiler: | |
Right so i may be nitpicking and whatnot
But what the hell is wrong with my picture? Besides the huge black bars, why do i appear to be looking through the eyes of a fish, with everything stretching out of proportion on the sides of my screen. Notice the dudes alien shaped head. >_>
Edit: oops forgot to spoiler the pic.

Displaying 3d graphics requires 3d projection of the models onto a 2d surface, and uses a series of mathematical calculations to render the scene. The angle of view of the scene is thus readily set and changed; some renderers even measure the angle of view as the focal length of an imaginary lens. The angle of view can also be projected onto the surface at an angle greater than 90°, effectively creating a fish eye lens effect.

I don't get that fish-eye view, good god that's ugly. Just set the Ratio Aspect to "Auto" or 5:4, which is the correct ratio for 1280x1024 (same res I'm using)

17" or rather 1280x1024 is 5:4 so a 5:4 -> x should work or perhaps you'd need the other way around x -> 5:4
(Somewhat uncertain, basically one scales it down to 5:4 whereas the other scales it up from 5:4)

Nope, sorry. I complained about the same thing .. and, as per usual, got the typical "buy a new monitor, NOOB!!!111" responses. Sorry mate, you'll just have to live with the ridiculously huge black borders.

Well, that's a pity...They're just too huge, even en FEAR2 i got smaller ones..Anyway, one of my favourite games..Wonder if i'd be able to ride an exosceleton in BB part like i did in the old ones DC edition...
No, we have no bears on the streets here in Russia.

Try setting aspect ratio to '5:4 -> 4:3' instead of 'Auto'.

nothing wrong with the screenshot posted..
every engine looks like that if you boost the fov up enough (to simulate riddick's heightened senses i guess)
most 3d engines are just approximations of 3d projection, they're faked, and they start to break down at the edges like that, and the middle of the screen gets smaller and smaller
that's why softth (a software triplehead solution) has a pixelshader setting that simulates a real lens and bends everything to proportion - middle portion looks like normal and edges the correct size, but bent, like a real lens would

This has nothing to do with "approximations of 3d projection". Even if you go with infinite precision, you'd still end up with that distortion because the field of view is just too large for the amount of space you have on the monitor to display the information you throw at it.
Same effect can be achieved with optics as well, when you use wide lens. The wider the lens, the more perspective distortion you'd have.
Now, after the optics lesson, the OP's pic is overtly distorted, certainly not how it should be when Riddick is standing. Field of view seems to widen when Riddick crouches, but this is not the case.

I've set mine to 16:10>2.35 and while the image is now stretched, it's also FULL SCREEN! I can handle stretched as long as there are no borders ^_^
