MechCommander 1 & 2

  • Unofficial web page : LINK
  • Publisher : MicroProse, MicroSoft
  • Developer : FASA Interactive
  • Genre : RTS
  • Release date : 1998 / 2001
  • Protection : NONE
  • Story:
    Quote:
In the midst of the Sarna March, now dubbed Chaos March, the battle for House supremacy rages anew among Davion, Steiner, Liao, Marik, and other loyalist forces throughout the Inner Sphere. The battle here on the world of Carver V is but a skirmish in the imbroglio across the Inner Sphere.

Battles between Liao and Davion ended the life of Mandarin Cho, leaving his widow at the helm of House Liao's forces on Carver V. Her desire for vengeance must indeed burn more fiercely than that of any commander who tasted mere defeat.

Davion and Steiner forces continue their alliance, although even after numerous historical victories their union is not a perfect one, particularly in the face of civil war spreading fast throughout their respective realms. Both maintain forces on Carver V, and their cooperation could create a juggernaut.

Marik, Kurita, and other notable military entities of the 31st century have not yet shown their head on Carver V. Aboriginal movements of Carver V citizens as well as more shadowy armed bandits on planet have definitely made their presence known, even if their identities and influence have yet to become clear.

As the wars of 3062 rage on, the future of Carver V is very much undecided.

  • Multiplayer : YES
  • System requirements :
    Quote:
CPU : 266 MHz or higher
GPU : SVGA 2D video card with 8MB RAM
    RAM : 64MB SDRAM

In my opinion, excellent real time tactics games, the 2nd one beeing better that the first one.

They are both free to download now, so try them if you haven't already.

Oh man, I couldn't even begin to tell you how I much I thoroughly enjoyed Mech Commander 2! I don't think a week goes by where I don't fervently hope, now that FASA has the rights back, that we get a Mech Commander 3.

I was stunned when the games were released, free of charge, into the public domain. That was one HELL of a fantastic thing to do, on the behalf of Microsoft.

Really liked those night missions in MC 2. You don't see a thing and then a bright flash of light and boom, your new mech is a pile of scrap metal. Very Happy

I'm hoping for MechCommander 3 as well. My dream would be a combination of MC 2 and Missionforce Cyberstorm.

And, yes, great move by MS for releasing these games to public.

Well, yeah, they were fun... but not as much fun as MechWarrior 1-4
I just wish there would be a new one... and I wish we could go back to good old Battle Tech times. Mech designs were just so much cooler before those clan OmniMechs came around...
Ah, good old times. Fun was had, indeed. Wink

On another note, might grab those two and give 'em another try Very Happy

I couldn't get the first one to install on Vista, haven't gotten around to downloading MC2 as I'm put off by the 3D engine. Still, the praise and preference for it over the original will force me to at some point, no doubt about that.

I don't think anything will happen, if there were any validity to their claims they should've done something when the other games were released or being made, thats something you'll look on in a possible court case.
