I’ve got my eye on one. I used to have the trackir with hat and clip.
Trackir work really well but I got fed up of wearing the hat and sold it just after I bought my first VR headset.
I usually fly in VR but occasionally like to fly on my widescreen but miss the freedom of looking around naturally.
If I can get it for a good price I’ll let you know £250 here is a bit too steep for the amount I’d use it.

yeah i also used to have track-ir, mainly why im interested.
one thing i don't like is that you are limited to max 30" screen (i think it was). while i've currently downgraded to a 27" i'm not so sure how long i want to stick with that, probably not too long...
my next screen is going to be at least 34" or if i get an ultrawide it's going to be ever bigger than that.

Really! I have a Predator 34” Curved Ultra Wide.
What’s the issue with using it on a monitor bigger than 30”? I’ll have to have a read up.
Edit
Reddit users using the same monitor without issue apparently.

Ah I see, it’s 30” max for the eye tracking. Screen size is irrelevant for head tracking.
Head tracking
The screen size recommendations do not apply to head tracking as it is not dependent on where you are looking on your screen.
Eye tracking
For eye tracking, we need to track where you are looking on your screen and therefore the maximum screen size supported is 27" for 16:9 and 30" for 21:9.

i think it might lose the eye-tracking then + it also becomes a matter of how close you sit, with a larger screen you sit further away thus its camera might have a hard time seeing the pupils.

Tobii sent a lot of Star Citizen streamers free ones to try and most felt Track IR is more precise and has a faster response time but a few did not mind sacrificing that for not having to wear a Track IR on their head.
Tobii also seems to do new revisions every few years and the Tobii 5 has been around for a while now so it would not surprise me that a new version will drop in the next year to better support larger monitors that are becoming more common now. If Tobii was $100 I probably would have one but it is hard to justify the price for a glorified webcam that I would only use in 1 or 2 games.

yeah its a little too expensive, track-ir is even more expensive though. like you say i think they might do a new version soon so probably not the right time to buy either.

I also find these solutions a bit expensive for what it is : the PS Eye Tracker still holds its own and is an unbeatable alternative cost/efficiency wise, paired with a competent software to make use of it (there are excellent options, both open and close source, stuff like FaceTrackNoIR)
Capturing at 120FPS makes it a pretty damn good and reactive experience even without any tracking lights to help it, from what I gathered. And you have the comfort of not having to wear anything which is a must for me
You can also use it with the usual IR tracking lights setup, stuff like TrackHat and such, but the trick is the PS Eye Tracker has an IR filter which you need to get rid off yourself, and that requires some.. dexterity. Some shops sell the modded one though - stuff like https://delanengineering.com/shop/, I'm sure there are a lot more out there.
Never got around to actually buying one and setting it all up because I'm lacking time to seriously play simulators ATM, but I think I'll go down that road for my semi-casual needs sometime soon, maybe during the summer - they still sell for 20-30€.

Thanks for the heads up on the PS Eye Tracker, I just looked at some videos and it seems like people got that to work with Star Citizen which was the main game that I wanted to try a Tobii with but this seems like a much cheaper option. I will have to keep an eye out for a cheap PS Eye now.

Head tracking will be fine it’s not limited by where you are looking. Eye tracking will not cover that amount of area your monitor has.
I think it’s roughly 30” for eye tracking. I know with my 34” it doesn’t cover when I look to the edges of the screen.

I wouldn’t get something like this. Wokeh government can cracl it and then track your porn watching habits, so that feminist beta males can accuse you on twatter that you are a pig.
