Yeah, but in all honesty, we whine like little girls when there is no quicksave option so we can save before going around each and every corner.
True skill is when you had to to play through a whole level without any save points, or even better through a whole game with only three lives like in the good old console games. Those required hours of attention and precise enemy location and level knowledge.

Ditto. I remember finding Duke Nukem 64 quite painful at higher difficulty levels, due to the fact you could only save at the end of each mission... a misjudjed jump or a levitating alien bastard with rocket launcher at the end of the mission meant restarting from the beginning of the level. I later tried the PC version and remember being able to progress much faster thanks to quicksave ability.... but it was also less satisfying imho (he PC version was still far superior due to uncensored swearing and much better controls tho).
So in the end, I personally prefer checkpoints to quicksave, IF they're placed with a minimum of criteria (do any of you remember the IDIOTIC placement of checkpoint in the game XIII ? They were placed so badly that if I recall correctly they later put out a patch to reposition them, due to popular request). But if they're well placed, they force you to thread more carefully, be more alert and THINK about your next move, instead of saving after every encounter and then try, die & load countless times until you get past the encounter.
