As far as the topic is concerned; I get seasonal allergies too. Hay-fever is a motherfucker that kicks me around like a rag-doll every summer - though some are easier than others, it just all depends on the pollen count. Being in England was the worst as the pollen counts were always so high, thankfully it's not as bad here in Norway and I usually just get sniffles Rolling Eyes

Clarityn is what I use. Goddamned expensive allergy medication, but it works and works WELL.

Clarityne expensive Confused Confused It's not so expensive here, I get it for like less then 5€ (with bonus health insurance by state Very Happy), and it does the job. But I heard that, if you take it regularly for a year or so, that it can seriously fuc* up your liver, kidneys etc... I take it when I really need it, when it hits me (and then my nose is like a tap Very Happy).

I actually find that if I don't use any antihistamine medication, that within about a week I seem to develop a tolerance to the pollen and the symptoms subside.

On the other hand if I use antihistamines regularly once the symptoms first appear I have to keep taking it for most of summer otherwise it can get really uncomfortable.

The past few years Ive been taking Alavert, it works good but I haven't had a chance to goto the store yet. And I can't put eye drops because I get scared to put things in my eye lol Im very bad with drops.

I took some Claritin on Tuesday and it worked for a little while. My allergies are going away and I haven't been taking any meds. My nose sort of tickled today for about 5 minutes but that was it. I haven't taken any meds since Wednesday.

Not true. When i first started getting hayfever, i could take one tablet a day and be feel fine. Now if i don't use a nasal spray i will be sneezing all day long and then have the worst blocked up nose you could possibly imagine.

Why do you say they cause problems anyway?

There was a programm on TV here a couple of days ago about allergies. Apparently it gets worse because of the constant import and export of plants globally. People already having problems with hayfever get more severe reactions because the immune system isn't used to the foreign pollens. They said that even bird seed and food used for animals (cows etc.) is contaminated with allergens. And apparently the main culprit is our simple grass. The pretty plants and such have a relatively small effect compared to grass.

I don't know where you live, but in Canada and the US, allergy meds (both pills and sprays) are always shown on commercials. And the side effects they cause are fuckin horrible sounding.

There is this new one (American, not approved in Canada), cant remember the name but it causes extreme nose bleed, swelling of the nasal cavity, increases chance of infection, can give you migraines/headaches and other shit I can't recall. Like there's a good 15 seconds of some chick talking fast about all the side affects.

If whatever one you use works and you get no side effects, then cool, use it man. It works ya know?

Just personally, I will never use a spray.

side effects can include fatigue and that's about it. All the other side effects are common in other things such as aspirine as well..

Headache, renal failure, coma. blablalbabla. If you just happen to be the one with the fucked up genes, too bad.

Just don't 3 antihistaminicum pills in the morning before you have to drive 5h. Best thing is to take them before going to bed and you will be ok the next day. Or even better, if you know you wake up to take a piss every night, take it then when you take your piss.

and btw, those pills help to prevent. So there is absolutely no use to take one when you are feeling sniffy as hell. Just take a pill in the evening and hope your next day is ok Wink

I take it you don't get American TV? Cuz their nasal sprays are fuckin hazardous man.
A lot of them aren't even approved for use in Canada.

i never take any sprays. Spray means danger danger!! Anything thats not suitable for a pill, shoot it through the nose. Allergy nose sprays? Never heard of it, and i am one fucking allergic dude. I get 50x normal values in hayfever test, so i have gone through a serie of medication. I have taken all sort of pills, taken 'puffers', injections, but never a spray.

They do sell Levocetirizine in US? Xyzal etc, there are generic cheapos on the market, why would some take a spray if you can take a pill once a day?

They don't sell generic medication of any kind in the US. Everything is name brand and expensive as ass.

Thats why tons of Americans (like in the hundreds of thousands or maybe even millions) come to Canada to meds. We have generic meds (same as name brand, exact same, just your not paying for the name) and even the name brands are less expensive.
Not to mention Canada has a way stricter policy on meds. Like a med will be available in the US. And we do our own testing on it here just to be safe.
Canada is strict when it comes to meds. Not like the American FDA....pay them enough money and you can get anything approved.
