No one plays ET:QW, just like UT3. You don't like games like CoD4, L4D, TF2? These have huge online communities.

true but these games are ok not great i like fps games which have airplanes,tanks..etc & i also like killzone2 type like fear2.
saying that about cod4 i will still buy cod6 on release day because the single player in the cod games is always top fun.

i guess for now i will just get UT2004

It's not due to heavy system requirements. It's because it's consolified, Epic took too long releasing patches to fix the problems, and which was mentioned, it is a big step down from UT2004.

There aren't many players. There's 777 servers, 406 players.
Even UT99 has double that! 1547 servers, 928 players.
Not to mention UT2k4: 1266 servers, 3364 players.
And UT2004 has an insane amount of _great_ mods. UT3 has little to none.

I got the numbers from http://archive.gamespy.com/stats/ btw, so only an estimate. Numbers might be higher, but they give you a general idea just what a failure UT3 is.

Upcoming PC games 2009 and onwards
Bravery is not a function of firepower.

If you get UT2004k, download the mod "Killing Floor", it's a pretty cool co-op survival game.

Killing Floor is pretty good, but it's clunky and absolutely NEEDS to be played with human players rather than AI.

If you're gonna get UT2k4 (please do! Very Happy) then another absolutely ESSENTIAL mod is the newly updated ChaosUT. An old classic from the original UT, newly updated and revamped for 2K4. Also, don't forget the CBP (Community Bonus Packs) which bring tons of new maps to the game - and there's even a re-release of the CBP from UT2k3.

i'm suprised at how low the prices for both ut2004 & ut3 are,so i went & ordered both games. i also bought ENEMY TERRITORY QUAKE WARS.
i will only keep the one i like the most . Smile

@ glottis i had bf2 & gave it away because i had lots of problems loggin to my account & graphics didn't look good on my 24" monitor.thx alot for recommending the games though. Wink

Weird, it's the best FPS game with vehicles. Well it's your loss. And it didn't look good? Maybe your eyes are blurred from all the "next gen" bloom hdr blur crap Cool

lol not really becausei still play soldier of fortune 2 online & love it but its nice to be able to run games in decent graphics & with no loggin issues which i couldn't with BF2.dice is releasing another BF game this year so hopefully it will be a good alternative for BF2.Smile

We should eliminate those who stray from the thoughts of the collective. Just like anyone who disagrees Fallout 2 being the best game ever deserves to be crucified in the proper fashion and displayed as a example to the others. For UT2004 you just need to get free editors choice edition bonus pack and the latest patch. I just installed UT2004 because of all this talk and played some invasion online. It gets repetitive quickly thou, and I can't even stand standard stuff like DM or TDM, so boring. I used to play invasion for hours when UT2k4 just came out, but now I got L4D and Invasion mode in 2k4 feels very dull in comparison.

^just make sure you play l4d with people who've got mic, you really need to communicate quickly

Eh, what? why the fuck would I troll about L4D? I *bought* the bloody game on both the PC and the 360 .. and I play it all the time.

I'm just waiting for the upcoming DLC to unlock the other two campaigns in VS (Smoker FTW!)


@Ontopic

In regards to UT2K4; you don't need a cd-key Razz Google for ut2k4autopatcher -- run that AFTER you've updated to the latest version. Not only does the latest patch remove the cd-check, but that autopatcher also fixes two files so that the game goes online without needing a key.

Basically;

1. Install then patch (you HAVE to patch first, before the bonus packs, otherwise the installation for the bonus ones complains about needing xxx version)
2. Install Editor's Choice pack, then each Community Bonus Pack (it may seem like a lot to download, but it's well worth it) then ChaosUT
3. Run the autopatcher.

Play online! ^_^
