usually im damn careful, and so far ive never been ripped off when buying online shit
saw an online store, its been around for a long time, so i felt a little uncertain about buying from someone ive never bought from before, but like i said, theyve been around for a while, so i figured it'd be reasonably safe
i got a 'payment recieved' confirmation
3 days later, no package recieved, not even an email 'its on the way'.. i email them... THE CUNTS ACTUALLY RESPOND TO ME, SAYING SOMETIMES ORDERS JUST TAKE A LITTLE WHILE....
2 days later, fuck this, i email them saying i want an immediate refund... no return email... i PHONE the fuckers, and noone picks up... yesterday THE FUCKING WEBSITE IS GONE, hahaha oh man i actually find this whole mess funny in a way... second i saw the site down, it was definately confirmed to me that the company was bust..
Today i do a little web searching, and yeah... company in liquidation, fucking owners done a fucking runner back to korea (i actually did a web search couple days ago, looking for owner/registration details, and found the owners name was Won Il Kim, so from that point on i pretty much guessed i was boned...)... turns out, the company was bust before i even ordered the item, but they kept on taking orders on the website!! that on top of the fact i actually got an EMAIL suggesting everything was FINE.. the fucking shitbags...

yeah, wonderful little mess... what pisses me off, was i ordered a hdd which i DESPERATELY FUCKING NEED... theres warez to get and im BONED for hdd space goddamit!!
i did order by cc, but it was through a third party payment website, so atleast i dont think these korean fucks have my details, and the money SHOULD be recoverable... and its not a HUGE amount... i feel bad for people that just spent a couple grand on a sweet new system, but they wont be getting it... thats gotta suck... and it'll probably make the local consumer affairs program over here, so that should be fun to watch... and the whole thing has given me a bit of a laugh... but yeah, what a fucking pain and a damn waste of time, that i COULD have been spending, filling up my new hdd with pornogra..uh..e-books, and other wholesome learning content...

if it was a US company you can file for a refund @ the curator when they liquidate the company.
Normally the first step in a bankrupcy is "a freeze of receiving customer payments" combined with a "freeze of delivery". They are legally not allowed to ship you. So you are basically screwed.
What were you ordering?

if i need something desperately i just go out and buy it and the only thing i purchased on-line was m$ points from confirmed reseller
if i order something on-line i always pay on pick it up or when it's delivered in cash, never up front

well i definately would have bought the item at a store if i could... problem is theres not many dedicated pc parts stores here... mainly electronics ones that sell cheap shit..
anyway, far as i know, bank should refund it.. i think the payment was through a third party visa accredited site, so the company wont have the card details or anything like that
went down to the bank, filled in a disputes form thingy, along with the order confirmation, email response i got, payment confirmation etc etc and yeah... so hopefully that'll get sorted.
company was c1 shoppingmall ltd, if anyones still curious.

Lots of scams happening lately.
I had an offer today from someone who said I was invited to a seminar for my trade. I was interested as they said it was free.
So I asked for an address as to where it was being held. All they said was "Its in Toronto". I ask "Where in Toronto?". They say "We can't tell you till you confirm".
So I say, "ok, I confirm, whats the address of where its being held?".
The guy says "Before we can confirm you, we need your SIN number, your date of birth, my full name, my dads full name, my mothers maiden name, my elementary school's name and my highschool's name and my current address and postal code".
I just laughed and said "No thanks man, don't have the time". But I asked "Can I have your name and a number I can reach you at?". He says "I can't give you my name but I can give you my number". So I say ok. He gives me the number and I hang up.
I checked the area code where the call came from....Nigeria.
Fuckin people
And yesterday, I got a call from a person saying my credit cards are fine but they can lower my interest rates. So I ask how. They ask me for the same info above plus what bank I'm with (which they should know if they know if my credit cards are "fine"). Then they said I'd have to fax a copy of my birth certificate to a number they gave me so they can "verify me" before they lower my interest rates on my CC's. I politely said no, thanked the guy for the offer and hung up.
Again, I looked up the area code and guess where they phoned from......Nigeria!
Like these people are idiots.
If anyone were to lower my cred cards, it wouldn't be someone I don't know.
Or you get those people saying "Good day sir, I'm calling from your bank as there is a problem with your account. I just need your full name, address, postal code, date of birth and mother's maiden name and your pin number so I can correct the issue". Idiots.
Even when my bank does call, I tell them send me whatever it is you have to say in writing through the mail. I have yet to ever have someone end me something from my bank with official headers and stamps and shit after a call like that.
Lol.
Or those people who go door to door saying that if I sign up right then and there with their hydro company, I will pay 1/3 of what I pay now BUT I have to pay a 500 dollar activation fee as they will take care of all the paperwork when switching to their company.....
Ever since this Global Economic thing, people have tried to scam me at least 3 or 4 times a week.
Idiots. I'm sure it works on elderly people but fuck....would never work on someone like me or anyone on this board I'd say.

Happens min 3 times a week.
And I can tell on the phone that its a scam cuz either the area code is not NA or one I know or it comes up "Unknown Name, Unknown Number", "Restricted Number", "Private Name, Private Number", "Blocked Number" or (and this is the best one) it will say some like Name - Nforce Number - 0 000 0000
lol
I phoned the Operator one time and she told me that if a number comes up all zero's, the person is using some kinda machine that fucks with the phone lines so they can't be traced or anything like that.

Naw......usually I try and get a name or an address. Then I will phone the police.
Even tho an address is prolly a front...like some abandoned store they rented just so they could hang a sign outside and have a number listed under an official sounding business name, it would still give the cops something to go on as those kinda scam artists aren't smart.
They prey on the elderly and such right.
I did call the cops about that seminar thing and they are gunna look into it. If anything, its on record in case someone does get scammed by it.
Thats the best thing you can do really.
I have a file with the cops that when something like this happens, i phone them and they record it in my file. That way, incase someone does steal my identity, my bank will catch it right away and its already on file with the cops.
Best way to protect your stuff man.
A few years ago some guy tried to get a credit card in my name at my bank (not my branch but same bank) and it was immediately flagged and he was arrested.
Most banks have some kinda option now for that sorta thing. Have had them for like 5 years or so.
So even if someone runs up say 20g's on your name, you don't have to pay it back and your credit isn't fucked.

haha, those nigerians. I never do anything on the phone. I dont trust it. Even when my cellphone operator is offering a discount, i always tell them i will come by in an operator store to actually see it on paper.
I even dont trust poker sites where you have to take a scan of your id to show you are +21. I blank out everything except my name and birth date. Signing something is the only thing that you can control it stays at 1 place for at least 1min... a phone conversation can be sniffed or 100 people can be listening and multirape your bank accuont using the info.
And when i have to sign something. I always ask for a table and a drink. Then i read it in a quiet room and sign. You will know in no time when they try to fuck you or they are there for you. My bank account is managed by the bank office that managed my grandmother, those people respect my dad because they knew him as a small kiddo and they respect me. And you feel that they respect you, they let you sign contracts @ home, they dont push you. They offer you investments without giving an opinion. They advise you not to do certain things, but if you say you want to, they just do it. If they were wrong afterwards, they admit it.
2 years ago i closed a youth savings account at another bank because i was getting like 1%, and i invested it all in a commodities fund with 100% capital protection. Because when stocks go down, commodities go up. I was started to become unsecure about the stocks markets, so i hedged. And the bank manager did not want to close my account. "we have no cash" (around 10k). I say of course not, give me a cheque. "we cannot withdraw such amounts in 1 time". Yeah right, but deposit is probably no problem eh...I told him i needed the money today because the fund was about to close that day. And then he came with ridiculous arguments to prevent me from investing it another fund... totally ridiculous. I had to phone the senior manager to close my account, fuckers. And then when i had to sign for closure, i first received a form to transfer my funds from a savinfs account to a long term investment account that give 8% but with a risk i lose it (probably Lehman brother obligations or so  ). Thats not what i asked for... And that was one of the biggest banks in belgium, not going to give names here, but f*cking scammers...
If you are rather ignorant or some old lady, you get pushed around with your money. I can understand people get scammed... You really need to push those guys away sometimes...

I used to work as a fraud liason officer for a major bank, and believe me Nigerians are the worse when it comes to anytype of money fraud... The shit they pull to get cash is beyond lol..
I have files and files here still at home from court cases that have the surnames like "Obiyougieanaaa" etc etc,, not even them lol, alot of Nigerians and Indians bypass the birth name on documents by using what is supposedly legal and using fathers details like the first name wont be theyre first name but some other bullshit lol..
And yet they are allowed still to do that when opening bank accounts and all sorts.. gay really.. but thats the world for you..

Man, I wish the authorities would crack down on these assholes.
Like if you get a call that is so obvious a scam, you should be able to call the operator, give them the info and then they pass it on to (in Canada for example) Bell and Bell conducts an investigation and such.
Ive called the operator before and they say they can't do anything about it. Ive even called Bell (the people who own all telephone lines in Canada) and asked if they can do anything. The only time they can do something is if the scam is being committed in Canada or the US. If its being done from Africa or Asia, they can't do anything cause those Governments don't cooperate.
They should create an international organization for this shit. No one here would be suckered in but Ive read, seen and heard of elderly people losing their retirement funds or having their identities stolen because of these bastards.
Thats why I have a police file. Anytime I get a scam phone call that has a number (sometimes it will show up "Unknown Name, Unknown Number" or something similar), I call the cops and they record it in my file.
Just in case anything should happen.
And my bank also has security measures and stuff.
Like if someone tried to take out say 5000 bucks from my account, they would phone me immediately to confirm if its me (cause obviously the person would be using a fake ID and shit). And they have some other safeguards in place.
Fuckin Nigerians......seriously. If your going to go through the effort of making tons of long distance calls and forging ID's and shit....just get a fuckin job.
And I don't get telemarketing calls anymore cause I'm on the No Call List so anyone who calls me offering lower interest rates or 100,000 dollar credit card lines, I know its a scam.
I feel bad tho for those people who fall for that shit.
Something really needs to be done. Maybe blocking all African country telephone numbers or something. Cause thats where the majority of these scams come from.
Make it so only a person can call say a family member in Africa and if a family member in Africa needs to call someone say here in Canada, they have to dial a special number that is traced or confirmed that they aren't scammers, then they are forwarded to whoever they need to talk to.
Anyway, I could go on for a long time on this subject so I will end it here

its pretty amazing... we got no home phone calls anymore since we have registered and it was 2 years ago..but also I never answer my home phone anymore

Canada has it to but alot of telemarketers in the US and Canada don't follow the rules/law. You have to threaten them (as in saying your going to report them).
And I don't think people running scams outta Africa care about US or Canadian law dude,
You report them and then what? Some gov official phones say Nigeria and informs them of the situation. Then its in the hands of Nigeria and I doubt they care. |

small update:
my new 640gb drive arrived - this time the owner of the company DIDNT flee to korea, so im happy about that. cant wait to fill up that drive... finally i can start gaming again!
also, got the credit card statement, checked it, didnt see any out-of-place payments, so it didnt get raped for 10k or anything, just the original $155.
no word back from the bank about getting the cash back yet, but ill post back if i get any further info.
