Do i have to pay for it to be flashed?
How long does it take?
And what about online?
Is there still ways of playing online withh a chiped 360?

why would you spend money to buy a modchip and then solder it?
when you can flash it for free in like 5 minutes if you know what you are doing..its pretty straightforward, some googling around will do
you can play online but there is always chance of getting banned, make sure to get latest firmware

You can deploy iXtreme firmware yourself, you can follow many guides. Please note that if ou have a LiteOn drive in your xbox, you MAY lose your warranty - because you'd need to get the key from your LiteOn to be able to restore the original firmware. But that would require a probe or something to get it - and if MS techs check your drive (but they usually don't, and if fault is a drive you can replace it yourself with the new (flashed) yourself anyway), you're screwed.
It doesn't take that long actuall, I read that most people have actually problem open the 360 case  And also the reading about it takes some time. Optionally you can have it flashed if you have a local flasher. People in my country do it for about 10USD, but I heard it's much higher in US (up to 50 bucks).
You can play online, but there's always a risk microsoft will find you and ban you from LIVE. You can protect yourself most to ensure you are using stealth copys (you can use abgx360 for example for that, but most releases are stealthed now anyway) and also use another profile to play games before releases. Even if you disconnected, you gain achievements which will be uploaded when you connect your x360 to network. Using alternative profile for playing not yet releases games may be vital protection against a ban.
I can't see reason why you wouldn't be able to play online, as long as you have subscribed and not banned Gold live account.
Please note that I do not own xbox360 and all the information I know is when I did a bit digging recently to decide whether to buy a gaming console or not; that being said all info above is from 2nd hand source.

You will need DVD+R DL, preferred Verbatim Media.
Just search on youbube or on Xbox-scene.com.
And to make proper stealh checks use ABGX.net as it has been said a few posts up.
