Do they still ask/command you to lay your hand on the bible saying "I swear to tell the truth, and nothing but the truth.. bla bla bla" in American courts?

Seems so damn useless. Even in USA there are lots of atheists, at least non Christians.

yes it's useless and yes it's a joke tbh
but evidence is what decides how it ends most of the time

Yeah I think its a fucking joke to make people that are not religious in any sense do this.. Its like asking you to lie in court for those that dont have a faith.. go figure..

yea...remember when I was testifying had to say it...it reminded me of Law and Order...I wanted to laugh at that point but that would be just wrong!

In the UK we still do it the old-fashioned way. From my own experience I can say this is what we do.

The court usher will ask if you wish to swear on the Bible, or affirm (if you are not religious),or wish to swear on any other holy book. In my case if I was a christian, I would take the Bible in my right hand and read the words from a card which most often read "I swear by Almighty God that the evidence I shall give shall be the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth". There are slightly different versions depending on the type of court hearing.
