Hi everybody...
I am going to San Diego for a science conference 17-19 march, but it turns out there is no decently priced flight back before 24th of march, too bad...
So i decided to add a little holiday to my trip.
Ok, there is Sea World and there is the San Diego Zoo, there is LA and Las Vegas and Phoenix in the neighbourhood and even the Grand Canyon.
But what should i really visit? i have 3 days i can spend 20,21,22 march 23 i need to be back in San diego to catch my flight early 24th.
I have been told not to visit Las Vegas in a weekend... Any other tips from you guys?
And i am a Euro boy, so dont tell me to go drive to Texas, because that is a little too far, im used to 100-200-300km trips, not 1000 miles/day

There was another thread exactly like yours previously that I listed a ton of places. Try searching for that. If it fails then I'll contribute some here.
San Diego's a great place, just DON'T go to Tijuana/Mexico.

There are casinos in San Diego, probably not worth the 5 hour drive to vegas given you don't have much time ... hoover dam isn't any closer.
I'd personally prefer a drive up the coast past LA ...
baseball is in spring training atm (san diego padres) and the closest basketball team is in LA.

I went to Tijuana, stayed for 3 hours and left, couldn't wait to leave.
The old town is nice. Got good food there, and all the navy stuff is pretty freaky. I guess if you have little ones the Wild Animal park is ok. I think you can get a $150 ticket that gets into Disney, California Park, and San Diego Zoo.
Maybe I'm gay but I reall like the the Model Railway Museum in the park.

hi everybody.
Atm my last day in San Diego here.
What did i do? I visited the Zoo, must do for everyone visiting SD. Balboa Park is also fabulous. Also visiited Point Loma, an old defense point or something, nice beaches. Also visited USS Miidway, the big ship. Old town is nice, the big bank buildings are funny, merril lynch, BOA, etc, all close to each other, one could call it broke street or something
Then i crashed my rental car on day 1 in a traffic jam (2 pedals and no stick, confusing man...) and there i was, all alone in the USA with my rental car crashed and my cellphone was dead, it doesnt get any crappier than that...
After that i took a ride to mount laguna, the highest point in San Diego county (6000ft or so) and got stuck in huge winds and fog and rain and had to pull over... Then i drove further east into Mojave dessert and got stuck in a huge sand storm white out, and saw a huge crash 2m in front of me and could barely pull over to what i though was the shoulder and wait the whiteout to pass by. When everything cleared up, the freeway was full with bits and parts of crashed vehicles and i was safe on the shoulder! Then i continued to Joshua tree national park and climbed a mountain. Then i rushed to find a hotel, which i hard in a foreign country, where you know nothing, and have to read a map, drive and eat at the same time...
day 2 of my trip i went to LA, hollywood, beverly hills, santa monica, orange county, laguna beach etc and back to San Diego.
And i really wanted to see an NBA match, but all the LA teams are 4 matches out in a row... lamers !!
See you soon again from europe again. ps the cars here are ridiculous !!!
