I certainly hope so. Because there has been an alarmingly large number of times lately when i had to slap myself for thinking:"You know, this game would be alot easier to play if I had a console and a pad".
Thank God for beer.

You guys should just give the damn thing a chance before you start crying "console controls" "console controls." World in Conflict's controls scheme could also be seen as a console control scheme (I even think you could use a 360 controller as well), and yet it was so well done that it didn't feel like stupidified for consoles (for those that don't know, the unreleased expansion of WiC was supposed to be released for 360 and include the original game plus the extra content).

http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,677895/Stormrise-first-DX10-only-game-Interview-with-Lead-Designer/News/

Seems the game or rather just the PC version uses DX10/DX10.1 with no support for DX9

Not to argue or anything but merely debate a bit.

Lazy how? support for DX10 only allows them to focus on that specific renderer only and as mentioned in the interview also include some extra features due to the improvements brought via DX10 and a bit further wtih DX10.1 such as soft shadows, SSAO and some other effects thanks to several performance improving techniques like multiple passes combined and some technical stuff like that.

Of course the X360 version will have to use DX9 so it does exist somewhere and the PS3 version uses OpenGL from how I understand it so from that perspective they could integrate DX9 support with some minor testing and tweaking as it's already there for the X360 edition of the game as I see it.

Could be wrong though but we'll see how the game is once it's out and available.

my statement was about no support for DX9 that means vista only
DX10 only doesn't hurt me as I'm using Vista and as long as it runs well

Yes that I understand, unfortunately that WILL hurt the game a bit as Vista holds a very small marketshare compared to how XP is doing.

Might improve things for DX10/DX10.1 and in the future also DX11 if Microsoft gets W7 done right as Vista has had a few problems though most of them are sorted out with the correct updates applied but there's still a lot of negative "vibe" around Vista so the damage is done and it hasn't exactly been the smoothest OS either especially in the first few months after release but I'm sure XP faced the same problems in the beginning until at least a bit before SP1 just that XP has been around for so long now so people are very used with how it works and such.

Still going back to the game it won't sell all that well I imagine just because of this.
(Which would be unfortunate for the developers but I'm sure they're willing to take that risk and probably know about what they're getting into by deciding upon making the game DX10 and thus Vista exclusive.)

Think in the future, this is only one game now, but more will go down this same path eventually.

With DX11 cancelled for the time being in W7 ( http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/424/1010424/ms-cuts-windows-features) , DX10 is the best we will see in it, and with the global money meltdown, Games designers will end up having shorter lead times, thus either dropping DX9 support or DX10 support from their titles.

So i dont think it will be long before we see just DX9 titles or DX10 titles.

Umm they do, latest DX redist is November 2008 and includes updates to DX9 and DX10 files via side .DLL updates instead of replacing the core files and forcing a restart. Very Happy

Quoting The Inquirer as a source... Laughing

BTW, this is false and not true. W7B1 already has DX11, to the point it is used for testing purposes. Smile

But I have to agree about the devs being lazy. If there are console versions created, it means the game could have supported DX9 shaders (with some modifications), as none of the completely new DX10 features are used (as always with multiplatform games/engines). DX10 might help them increase the performance, but they should have had DX9 as an option as well.

An XP vs Vista tack was kinda expected since the devs have locked the game into DX10 only (a lot of people are still using XP, so a decision like that is bound to ruffle feathers I guess)

Still, regardless of what OS is needed; reports are coming in now that the game is crap anyway, haha.

It's not, the devs have stated they are only including the DX10 shaders, so it will not be hackable, unless people recreate the shaders (like for instance BioShock black-regions-crap-shaders). Smile It probably only comes from laziness (or Microsoft cash-induced laziness Very Happy), as DX10 shaders are in lesser need of management, as opposed to DX9 ones, which have to checked and tested on a huge array of hardware (i.e. Brothers in Arms Hell's Highway and the rain level on AMD hardware).
