I've got Windows XP SP3 (and what i've got specified at my sig) and a Vista SP1,both 32bit (to hell with 64)

i was wondering if i'll get any boosting performance in games and system/applz in both systems if i upgrade my C2D E6600 to a Q6600 (i dont like overclockin'),also addin' 1GB of DDR2 667mhz RAM to make 4GB.

Thanks in advance

What's the point of getting another GB if you're sticking with 32-bit Vista??? You'll only get an extra ~200MB from it, completely unnoticeable. And what's with "to hell with 64"?? Is there a reason for that comment or is it based on nothing?

Yea agree, the problems with x64 drivers and what not are basically over, both XP and VISTA.

I was like "Oh scary to switch to Vista x64) but since I did it like 2 months ago there is no looking back. Running a max of 8GB RAM (at least for my mobo ) And have had no real problems what so ever with drivers or other stuff.

both XP n Vista will have boot/applz/games performance boosting?,i mean, the Q6600 are cheap here in spain, around 150€,being the new beast..and the E6600 doesnt exists now grinhurt, but here comes the E8400...

The E8400,8500,8600 are all great overclockers. My bet would be E8400 as it gives you best value for money. From what I know the ASUS P5K-Deluxe does support 45nm CPU's so that wont be a problem.

But mind you, if you want better boost playing GTA IV I would rather recommend any 45nm quad.

But for everything else the E8400 is a real killer, performance and price wise.

You can probably run that 3.8GHz on air easy and 4GHz with a good cooler.

And as said, if you want more RAM, go x64...really!

Like i mentioned,im afraid of OC,i dont wanna burn my rig ^^;;;.and i've got GTAIV for PS3,thx..but since most games and applz lately recommends a Quad (Crysis,GTAIV,etc...) that was i asking about the Quady..

Here are the prices in the store i normally buy hardware:

Q6600 @ 2,4Ghz 1066mhz 8MB = 159€
E8400 @ 3Ghz 1333mhz 6MB = 162€
Q8200 @ 2,33Ghz 1333mhz 4MB = 185€

btw, will i gain boot up speed with a Quad instead of my E6600 or the E8600,besides of applz n stuff?

Sorry i'm becoming annoying,but i wanna make sure i get a good buy than a fucked up buy ^^;;;;

PD: i would gladly go to Vista 64bit,but there's no spanish Vista SP1 64bit here, unless there's a language pack and transform an english Vista to spanish...

As for Spanish Vista. Simply install Ultimate and then download the Spanish language pack. I think Ultimate is the only version that allowes you to do that.

If you don't want to OC I would go for the Q6600. For my taste it's a bit oldish, but ok cheap at the mo.

Personally i would at least go for Intel Core2 Quad Q9300 4x2.5GHz
Its around 200€ (tray) here in Germany. Its built using the latest 45nm technology and does not run as hot etc as the old 6xxx series.

As for how fast stuff boots etc...hard to say, depends on what programs you run there at start up etc.

I think you will not see a major increase other then in apps and stuff.

But hey, check this CPU chart at Toms Hardware, there you can compare the 2 CPUs and see what they score etc.
LINK

Best of luck.

Guess what?,FUCK IT!! ><..

...ok,i'm afraid to ask this but..how much can i OC my E6600 and will that help on gaming and applz?..i've got a Thermaltake BigTyph VX120 CPU Cooler and its always having the fan speed at MINIMUM (for noise stuff).Unless there's a better cooler (Zalman with those external Fan Mate controls..)

The thing is that i have a 550W PSU..will that be enough to evade a burn and BSOD?..or should i get a thermaltake toughpower 700W one modular?

Remember: I DONT WANNA FUCKIN BURN MY CPU!!..nor the PC

PD: Gettin' Vista SP1 x64...slooooowly (megaupload) and SPANISH grinhurt

Hi you can run your E6600 on 3Ghz easily with air cooling just up the fsb from 266 to 333mhz. I have had mine running like that since I got it.

i7 3770k, GTX980, 16GB Ram, SSD Raid0, Internet 3rd world shit not worth mentioning

Upgrading from an E6600 to a Q6600 or other similarly clocked quad core is not worth it at all unless you're rendering and/or encoding/decoding a lot with quad core compatible applications or are often running more than 2 processing intensive applications at the same time.
And by that I don't mean listening to music while playing a game and having some kind of torrent downloader or whatever in the background.

You can probably count the games that are out now where a quad core is somewhat useful with your fingers on one hand, so for gaming, a quad core is almost worthless.

If you don't meet those criteria but still want to upgrade somehow, then you would be much better off with a higher clocked dual core of the same price as a Q6600.

E8500?..but i've compared an E6550 (closest near the E6600 of mine) with the E6500 here http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/desktop-cpu-charts-q3-2008/compare,818.html?prod[2184]=on&prod[2198]=on

And the E8500 wins at games but loses with applications against the E6500..i dun get it @@

And i dont like OC'in!,i dont wanna burn my CPU!

I run my E6600 at 3.25GHz with a Tuniq Tower, and see no reason for a quad core or whatever upgrade just yet.

IF you really want to upgrade - believe the captain. Get a new 45nm quadcore with at least the same Mhz as your E6600. But it`s not worth it, believe me.
You wont notice any difference without overclocking.

The cheapest way would be to oc your current cpu. 3000 Mhz and more should be easy. The chance that you fry your cpu/mb is non existant. If you follow some simple rules.

- Memory multiplier set to 1:1.
- DON`T let the voltage be determined by your mainboard (auto).
- set your vcore to ~1,35 V - not more then 1,4 V!
- leave all other voltages @ default (NOT "auto").
-An option (depending on your memory) would be to increase memory voltage to ~2 V, too.
If you already have 333 Mhz Memory (DDR2 666) or even 400 (800) this is not needed!

-Start increasing your FSB. (266 is default). A good start would be 300.
-Download prime 95 and check for stability, you can also play your favorite games for several hours and see if its stable.
- You most likely will at least reach 333. (9x333 = 3000 MhZ)
-keep increasing fsb until you encounter crashes, unstable behaviour and then decrease your FSB 10-20 Mhz.

You are set - easy way to gain a huge performance boost.
