Holy shit! I though this game had died or something. Good to see it didn't. Hopefully it will be good, as Jagged Alliance 2 is awesome.

The German version was released some time ago and the people who got it said it was full of bugs and other strange things like incredibly difficult and accurate AI throwing grenades at your feet from the other side of the map.
Hopefully the guys who are releasing the english version will get the devs to make some patches to fix these probs.
The game isnt as goodas JA2, not even by a mile but I will get it just because I need a turn based tactical gaming fix untill 7.62mm and JA3 come out...

I quote: "we expect the game to release at the end of november", the game will be put in the coming soon section before that
@silverblue, expect 7.62 mm in 2009 and JA3 in 2010

Bit off topic, but everyone seems to like JA here: JA possibly still on way to DS. Apparently some time in march 2009 it might show its face, which would be good.
Mobile Jagged Alliance. I once tried playing Jagged Alliance on a 200mhz laptop I had laying around. It was good, but the touch pad would go absolutely insane after a while and fly around the screen randomly clicking places.
Could be a good time waster until the release of JA3, whenever that might be.

My source, the all-knowning and powerful crystal ball of release dates, says December 2012.
Seriously tho, I am looking forward to the DS release as well. Actually have been keeping tabs on this ever since I bought the thing a couple yrs back, always seemed like vaporware, but with screenshots now out looks like it might actually see the light of day. But yeah, a game like JA I think is absolutely perfect for any kind of mobile device, where addictive gameplay trumps graphics everytime.
And Jagged Alliance 2's gameplay even with its low-end graphics has still kept the crown of most addictive game, ever, for me at least. I've prolly sunk more hours into that game than all other games combined. Of course I played it when I had much more time for games but I still think that says a lot for a game with nailed-down mechanics vs. all the best graphics and newest hottest features that amaze you at first but don't hold your interest when the core gameplay is really not all that great.

Just played the demo. The original title says it all. It is just like JA2, but in 3D. Gotta love those Ruskies for such a remake.
Camera control is great, very similar to UFO:AS/AL. There is a "bird" mode where you see all the map from high above, and still control the mercs.
Several small bugs that don't affect gameplay. Some crashes too, but hopefully the full version is better.

Apparently the english version of the game will have tweaked difficulty so "grenades out of nowhere" doesnt take place.

I have the original russian version
I must note that this game is a clone of JA (interface, mechanics, "story")
In its early state it was buggy, broken, unplayable game, but by now most bugs are patched and those left are solved by community made mods (russian only (maybe works with other languages).
With realism mods installed this game is almost as good as orginal JA 2
PS.
game uses Silent Storm engine
Protected by starforce (Baltic countries version, but I believe it is the same one as in Russia)
PPS.
Russian 7.62 version is also quite playable by now (althou I like JAZZ better)

From what I remember, it's a clone of JA because it was JA. It was being developed as a JA game with JA characters, story, mechanics etc., but when a couple of companies had a disagreement the game was dropped, so the developer removed all references to JA instead of scrapping the game.
Really? The Silent Storm engine? I love that game!

JA3 is using the Silent Storm engine I believe. If we are really lucky, the devs will release some sort of tools to make editing possible, but it is unlikely..

silent storm engine is aging a bit but its still the best 3d TBS engine ever.
in an alternate reality i would have hoped fallout 3 to use that engine... *sigh*

Is this game anywhere close to being as good as JA2? Or should I just stick to 1.13 until JA3 comes out or something?

It's a pathetic clone released by GFI when they got dumped by Sir Tech. It has none of the JA depth and very simple game mechanics.
Maybe you've heard of chinese fake Nokia and Iphones sold on ebay? Well, that's a fake JA3.
