Hi Smile

I got a new computer after my old one died on me. It's a Q6600, Radeon HD4850, 2GB ram(though I use 1gb as one stick is faulty) and a 450w Corsair PSU.

Anyways, whenever I try to install GTA my computer totally freezes in the middle of the installation, and I got nothing else to do but turn it off or reset it. (It really completely freezes - the mouse doesn't move, keyboard doesn't respond, music gets stuck, etc..)

It's important to mention that the same installation works flawlessly on my brother's PC.

So after several tries I decided to try something tricky and copy the installed game folder from my brother's pc. I've done that, fixed the registry, and played the game. Though on the very first moments I noticed that something just wasn't right - 90% of the game's models are just invisible.

Here's a pic -

I guess that if I installed it properly it would be okay, but I just don't know how to do that :/ And I can't point my finger on the problem. Sad

I hope you guys can help me fix even only one of the problems Smile

Thanks!

Nah.. CPU is 30-50 degrees.
And other games work flawlessly. So far I tried Crysis,FarCry2, and Bioshock.

erm i suspect FireMaster meant the graphics card overheating... which is a common cause of graphic 'artifacts'... not the cpu

Well I haven't checked the graphics card temperatures under stress, but on IDLE they are pretty low - 40 Celsius.

Though I really don't think that's the case since everything works great on other demanding games such as Crysis and FarCry 2. (Works flawlessly on highest settings)

Apparently adding up the ram to 2GB of ram fixed it.
Though I run on single channel and not dual cuz I get a lot of errors in memtest when I'm on dual channel.
Hmmp I guess my motherboard is faulty.
Anyhow, I can play GTAIV for the moment so it's not that bad Smile

Just wanted to inform anyone to whom it may help, that I had fixed the problem with the freezings when installing games like COD5 and GTAIV.

The problems I had with my computer completely freezing were caused by a ridiculous services that is installed with Gigabyte's drivers in order to save power.
The service is called 'GEST Service for program management', and when disabled the problem is getting fixed. However I don't think that my problem with running my RAM in dual channel will be fixed because of it.

I hope this helps anybody.

Why install Gigabyte drivers anyway? Razz Always go with the chipset maker's drivers. Smile
