i have a problem with a recent external dvd burner i just purchased.
i am totally aware that most external dvd burners, this particular brand being Mad Dog at USB 2.0, are not able to burn particularly fast. however, this burner is incapable at burning more than 1x, typically building up to speeds of less than 0.7x. the burner is "capable" of burning at 16x. i am able to use programs as dvd decrypter and nero with the final dvd working flawlessly, yet the same problem persists: i am unable to burn at higher speeds. i am using Sony DVD-R media at the moment, with speeds of 1x-8x.
i am running Windows XP with 512 SDRAM and 866mhz (pentium III), with a nvidia geforce ti 4600. are these specs killing it? or perhaps a faulty driver? any help is totally appreciated.

ERmm.. you sure you have a USB2 port on your mobo, a P3 mobo probably doesnt have one, this is without doubt the problem your having, your computer cant send the data to the external drive fast enough to burn any faster.
