I'd rather play Earth And Beyond on a private server.

Free MMO = utter crap every single time.
Nice screenshot, though made me reminisce of Homeworld.
8 out of 10 dentists prefer zipfero to competing brands(fraich3 and Mutantius)!

Well.. the pvp (in the beta stage) was like Star Trek fleet commander.. was not very fast.. and i didnt find it very easy to attack and stuff like that..
i remember some years ago that they were thinking about changing the game... dunno if they changed the pvp

Do you know any? I can't seem to find one. | I don't think there's any. AFAIK everything related to the game went down the drain after EA fucked it up.
It had such a great potential, as well as Motor City Online.

Yeah there is, they gonna do a open beta on 22nd December for 2 weeks to stress test.
=======
Greetings Fellow EnBers.
We will host an open stress test during the Christmas Holiday Season.
What does this mean?
An open stress test is not a beta. What an open stress test is is a temporary period where developers want as many people as possible to play to test how a server operates under high loads. This will be open to allow us achieve this goal and to allow the community to get involved. Not every feature will be ready. Most sectors will be open. At least the original classes will be ready. Mobs, mining, groups, and some skills will be active. The server will be set to hold 400 players but can be expanded as needed so there will be plenty of room for everyone.
When will this happen?
All content developers must have their content finished by DECEMBER 15th. No Exceptions. What will happen is once the content is in is it will be migrated to the test server and activated. That will take some time and certain issues may arise, but no matter what the test server will be open by December 22nd. Once it is launched it will remain open for 2 weeks. From time to time until we are ready for an open beta, stress tests will occur. If you can, participate in this one. The more of a success this is, the more we will likely have.
What does it take to play?
You will need to register on the site which is not public yet. You will need a valid copy of Earth and Beyond installed. It will be available via a torrent that will be posted in the near future. You will need our patcher to login. Details will follow as we finalize the test.
What do we need from you, the community?
Hosting the torrent will be a priority. We need people to upload back more than they download to ensure maximum players. The more players, the better the community experience.
For advanced community members, if you have a server and would like to aid in hosting the torrent or even future stress test, please send me a pm.
I look forward to seeing you all in game.
Earth and Beyond Forever,
Tbohner

I had that too and I, also, thought "What the frag? It's so blurry I can't see shit!" Quit and reload and the blurriness gradually dissipates .. it's part of the game. You've just come out of a cloning tank. I believe it's a bug the first time, as the blurriness doesn't go away at all - but when you reload, it comes in and then goes away as if your eyes are foggy.
My own impressions? It's VERY good! A few niggly issues plague the beta, but all-in-all it's an excellent attempt and, above all else, it's free. Micro-payments keep the game free (Hoplons are the real-world currency and they're expensive - but unlike the rest of the world's "free" MMOs; you don't need to buy them) Playing on a free account is absolutely fine (so far at least) as you're not massively gimped and can easily, happily, play as much as you want.
Levelling Up is the same as most MMOs. You gain points per kill, per mission, etc etc and when you level up, you get Stat Points which you can put into your stats and skills. Unfortunately, I don't know what any of the skills are as the text isn't implemented (or is bugged; see below) So I've just been putting stat points into skills at random, hehe.
Missions are pretty much the standard space-sim fare so far; fly to a station, talk to an agent, go xxx and kill/deliver/spy on xxx. I was kinda disappointed with one mission, though. Hired by the police to infiltrate the local Mafia and then report back my findings. The end of the mission left me with what I thought was a choice; return to the police and attack the mafia .. or join them! Sadly it wasn't a choice at all and I had no other option than to return to the police and then attack. Such a shame, as I always play space-sims in the role of a pirate or brigand.
Graphics are really impressive for a "free" game (not quite up to par with the likes of X3 and/or EVE, but also not as eye-gougingly ugly as Parkan II) and the game also runs smooth as butter with every option enabled, including max AA/AF.
The audio is very impressive, though a little sparse and also suffering from beta issues (sometimes SFX don't play, or cut off during an action) -- and if you're playing the English version; expect Portugese voices. There's no English voices yet.
Combat! Combat is, so far, excellent. Expect Freelancer and you won't be disappointed, expect X3 on the other hand and you will be. The combat is simplistic enough to grasp for anyone (right mouse shoots, left mouse selects) and you can scroll through your weapons with the mouse wheel. Pressing ALT switches between FLY and INTERACT mode (again, think Freelancer) allowing you to manage your systems, explore areas, collect loot and chat/check missions - and then jump back into combat with a touch of a button. Simplistic, aye, but it works great and isn't confusing in the least.
Ok, as for the bugs I've encountered so far .. there's not as many as you'd expect from a beta, but here's what I've seen;
1. Audio issues as mentioned above. Weapon/Engine sound effects often don't start at all, have a delay on them or cut out/in mid action.
2. Text in the English version. All the current skills are missing text and just show the likes of "&%String_Title:Skill" etc etc. Same goes for ships and even some weapons. It seems the full translation from Portugese to English hasn't been implemented yet, though missions have been done perfectly (with no Engrish either! The translation really is quite good)
3. GUI issues. If you dock at stations, or jump gates, while your cruise engines are enabled - the viewpoint is severely skewed ad control is almost impossible when you leave the station. To remedy this, log out and back in again, and don't press "E" to dock with anything while you're in Cruise Mode.
4. No graphic issues that I've seen as of yet.
5. Stability is excellent and I haven't had a single dropped connection or random CTD.
6. LAAAAAAAAAAAAG. Mother of GOD the lag can be quite bad in this. Just like FlyFF (and pretty much any Korean MMO on the market, free or otherwise) the lag can be crippling in this, often resulting in your shooting an enemy for a clear 2 minutes before your shots register. One second he's flying at you, the next he's shooting at the place you WERE two minutes ago, then he suddenly skitches out and appears behind you. It doesn't happen ALL the time, but it happens enough to be annoying.
7. Forums are in Portugese, there's no English section and all the players I encountered via the ingame chat are Brazillian. If you run into trouble, you might find it hard to get help.
Of course, micro-payments are part of the game- but as I said, it doesn't make your experience any less enjoyable (least, not from what I've seen). There are a few bonuses to paying for a subscription (referred to in-game as an "Affiliation") and these are;
Storage Capacity in starbases. Affiliates get 2000, FreePlayers get 250. Quite a jump.
Hangar Capacity. Affiliates get 6 ship-slots for storing ships at each base, FreePlayers get 2. Easy enough for just casual playing, but if you really want the best ships for the best situation .. you'll need more than 2 hangars.
Systems Access. Now this is the ouch part. Affiliates gain access to these systems; "Solar, Epsilon Indi, Barnard, EZ Aquari, Proxima Centauri and Ross 154" -- FreePlayers only have access to "Solar, Epsilon Indi and Barnard" The game is massive enough to make being a FreePlayer worthwhile, but no doubt you'll eventually want to explore more.
Insurance Cover. Very handy for if (WHEN!) you get blown to bits. Insurance covers your equipment and ship, upto a set value. Anything worth more than the set value and you have to pay a premium to recover it. Affiliates get insurance of upto $1.5m -- FreePlayers only get $15k. NOT good if you're flying a ship that cost you a million, as the premium you'd have to pay would be what? $975k BEFORE your equipment costs.
I've only been playing for a couple of days, but so far I AM impressed. Voice-overs are well spoken (even if in a language I don't understand, lol) as the actors don't sound wooden or bored. Graphics are impressive enoughh. Sounds great (when it works) and the gameplay is engrossing for now, though no telling what the future brings. All in all, for a free game it's definitely worth checking out - and the upcoming expansions, also free, promise to offer a LOT more to the galaxy (the one I'm looking forward to in particular is the ability to leave your ship and walk around stations)

Hahahaha! Yeah man, too bloody right! The best thing? I was right (at least for my OWN enjoyment) -- because I LOVED the game! Clocked the 360 version almost two months ago, now I've got the PC one for the G.E.C.K and mods, hehe.
Already got something stupid like 800MB of mods installed-- and it looks, and runs, great! Awesome game.
