Didn't find a similar thread, so sorry if it exists.

Travian was fun, can be a bit dramatic though. Alliances can be forged, people can be betrayed, feelings will be hurt. If you get yourself in a big alliance you'll get insanely funny messages from other players (threats "I'll fuck you up", begging "please don't attack me sir", cries etc.). I had to stop because it consumes alot of time when you progress. It gets tiresome after some time though.
It's easy, simplistic, yet still alot of fun. It's free, unless you're really into it. You can buy gold and spend it on extras. I never did it, I was mainly an occasional player myself.

Dunno if it fits in with what you're looking for but I used to love playing Utopia back in the day. I was a kick arse t/M T/m depending on my mood Very Happy

I don't have time anymore, you need to spednd a fair bit of time with it to get the best out of it, but it's good.

I was pretty disappointed in the end. I spent months building up a decent town, and then it got demolished almost back to square one after a few attacks with catapults in less than a week. A waste of time.

There is a company that has two text based rpgs that has been going for at least 12 years. The company is Simutronics, www.play.net The two games are called Gemstone and DragonRealms. I played Gemstone for about 8 years. It is a subscription based game, not sure what the cheapest rate is now since I am no longer active. Several races, professions, guilds and subskills and a lot of GM interaction as far as running events and storylines. It is actual Roleplaying, they will not allow netspeak, and has an easy to learn but very involved combat and spellcasting routine.
