Apparently we still live in the ages where you have only 1 HD. I've got a seperate HD for isntalling games to. If I install a game to drive D:Games and my os is on C:, WHY THE FUCK WOULD I WANT ALL MY SAVE GAMES ON C:!!!!
I just reinstalled windows, every...fucking...game save I had for every game was on that OS drive. Rendering all my other games RIGHT BACK WHERE I STARTED.
Dead space I have to start over, Lego Batman I have to start over. The Witcher too im sure. Fucking bullshit.

It's not the game developers' fault, it's MS' fault. This assures you can delete the game's folder without accidentally deleting the saves, like it used to be back in the day.
Basically what you want to do is move the Application Data directory to another drive. Read this:
http://shellrevealed.com/forums/thread/2721.aspx
Edit: No Pistol, he's raging against the AppData directory (or Application Data in XP), which is [by default] put in C:, and deleted with a format.

Another point is, if you haven't deleted the previous installation, the files may still be there somewhere. Check the Documents and Settings folder for your old usename.

it must be since people stopped storing save games in the fucking folder games are installed in.

I have no problem with saves stored in My Documents or My Games but the Application Data ones annoy me too. There are 3 of those AppData folders on my C: drive and every game saves to another one!

Moving the my docs folder is easy, its moving the c:\users\*.* that gets difficult

The reason that the games are saved there nowadays is to allow people to play games with a limited user account instead of admin or power user rights.

yup, it s because of xp and later being multi-user systems. And as such they try to have certain conventions for games / programs to follow a set rule of paths to use, so windows will be able to handle systems with more than one user accordingly. Since most people dont use xp with more than one user, it might seem odd, but imho its no real proplem.
I always install games to a different drive as well and always backed up my private data from the c-partition, so i never lost save games. Apart from when the boot-partition died and the data became unreadable, but thats a different story.

Oh.....and god speaks!!!
Still it wouldn't be hard to give an option BEFORE installing "would you like to keep saves in the install directory?"

yeah, THAT indeed is a something i get angry about as well. Most mouse-software has a config, so you can set the extra buttons to a key-press instead to make it work, but still even that shouldnt be necessary.

Why are more and more games restricting something as simple as control mapping?
It's like the developers are using a 2 button mac mouse from 1990 along with a keyboard just as old.
WHAT....THE....FUCK?
Quite frankly, I would be fucking embarrassed having worked on a game with a multi-million dollar budget only to find that it doesn't detect MOUSE 4 / MOUSE 5 - or hard-codes keys to useless functions without giving the user the ability to remap them *cough* Deadspace, Tombraider *cough*
Seriously....this shit is unfuckacceptable.
Sorry, had to rant |
What sets me off is resolutions. A lot of games seem to be missing 1440x900 but they'll include that whacky 13xx resolution? You know it's lazy devs, I installed deus ex a while ago, no patches...nothing, bare game off the disk, wallah, 1440x900.
What's even worse than that? Where the fuck, who the fuck decided health bars or a health system is no longer needed? Oh god!! I got shot in the head, let me go hide behind this impenetrable trash can for 5 seconds so I can be full bad ass again. I mean deus ex again, nothing like falling at a high altitude and lose both your legs so your crawling around. I mean fuck sakes, eve Bethesda got it right with fallout 3.

What we need:
Games with NO hud!
If you get wounded you should feel it ingame. F.e. if you're getting a bullet in your leg, you should move slower from that moment on. Getting a bullet in the arm should make aiming harder. And so on. Further wounds should bleed, so that you need to bandage them.
If you don't bandage your wounds, your vision should loose it's saturation slowly and all stats should lower by time.
It would be cool to be able to break your leg, while doing some insane police chases...
Well, infact I'm still waiting for a game, where you can actually play a cop and have an open city to get bank robbers and so on! Btw, what happened to loose cannon?

what YOU need is to join the military
a game is a game and imo shouldn't feel that realistic , but it should be fun , that's the only point of a game
realism = simulations and not games

Right!
I mean, imagine a game like GTA where you flee from the police and they crash into you. You manage to leave your car, but your leg is wounded. Everything is in first person and you're vision is slightly distorted for some seconds, you're moving slower and as you make your steps the vision goes up and down because you are badly hurt (a little bit like it was in cod4 when the abomb exploded). Then you turn around and see the cops coming out of their cars, also injured and bleeding and trying to shoot you... Hehe, this reminds me off pulp fiction and I think that this should be ultimative fun!

You won't believe this but I read this on bbc about some game-makers and gamers wanting to make games more realistic and they said that a health-bar detracts from that. It said that a health-bar only works in situations where the person is wearing some kind of armour which depletes and can be recharged. In all other situations the gamers voted for no health-bar. |
talk about idiotic, they want to make a game more realistic so they go from health bars to health auto 5 second recharge?
I personally think Far Cry 2 has a better idea going on with the removal of bullets and crap.

Or try using a data recovery app. As long as the sectors haven't been re-written on, there's a good chance you'll save something.
