|

My Viewsonic VP390 won't power on except when shutting down, at which point it shows for a brief moment the XP shutdown screen. Has my monitor died, or has putting my computer into sleep mode tripped it in some way? The display when shutting down is perfectly normal (and comes on like clockwork) but I'm just getting a black screen and a blinking LED powering up the PC. Everything underneath is running as I can login and shutdown 'blind', just no image on the Viewsonic.
I've hooked up my HDTV for now, and that works, but it's not much cop for PC stuff on account of being dirt-cheap. 3 months to Christmas I don't want to be buying a new monitor, so I'd appreciate any help or advice you can give.

have you tried any other monitors on it? maybe the connectors on the video are bad or loose? or do you mean you have your tv hooked up to your pc...and in that case..have you tried the monitor on another computer?

My Viewsonic VX922 did the same thing. It would get power normally, but it's power led would just blink green (it shouldn't blink) and there would be no picture.
Temporary solution was, while keeping it powered on, remove the power cable for at least 15 seconds or so, then reconnect the power. That would usually get me a picture again, although it sometimes died off after that on resolution changes (when switching to a full screen game or something)
You can also try keeping the monitor powered off until windows is done with the startup, then turn it on.

Yeah, the TV works fine on the PC but I just tried the Viewsonic on another with no luck. I've had it for more than 2 and half years now, but looking at it when it's shutting down, and using it in the past couple of weeks, I just can't understand why it's gone on the fritz? With a CRT you at least get warning signs & degradation
I'll give Surray's tricks a go later tonight, if they work I reckon I'll be able to get away with it for the time being - I just can't stand reading or writing on the TV, it's awful

I tried switching on the PC and then the monitor separately but whatever I did it wouldn't power on. For the time being I've shelved it and borrowed my dads work monitor. I wonder whether another power cable would be worth a try based on your experiences or is it likely to be something in the monitor?

Could it be a resolution issue. The XP shut down screen is lower res than your desktop (Right?) . So if that shows up, maybe your Monitor is bad a certain resolutions?? Just a thought.
