I have two DVD players that both play Divx files (or so they state) However upon converting Mpg,Wmv etc files to Avi. Some will play in one machine and not the other and vise versa.. I have tried loads of different codecs in the apps I am using but I just cannot find one that both machines are happy with
Now is this a problem with the Dvd players or can someone suggest a bog standard codec I can use that is 'foolproof' and is known to play in all or most Divx players.. Also what do you consider the best app to convert the files? And which to convert them to? Avi,Xvid etc
You should check the specs of your dvd players and see which codecs they are compatible with and find one which is common to both. Also check if the manufacturer offers firmware updates for your players to include more/newer codecs.
As for an application to convert files, I have never had the need for anything other than Virtualdub.
As to which codec is the best, well each codec has its band of fiercely loyal supporters. But I think that in your case the choice is limited by the ones supported by your players.
