The creator of the original Betrayel At Krondor is petitioning for a sequel Here :

Quote:
The Petition

Over the past year, I've received several e-mails about whether I might Kickstart a sequel or a remake to the award-winning hit role-playing game, "Betrayal at Krondor." Over the years, it's still the game I am the most contacted about, and the title which seems to have been the most beloved by fans.

Following the release of Betrayal at Krondor, John and I had designed an unreleaesd sequel to BAK called "Thief of Dreams". Due to some unfortunate politics between the upper management of Dynamix and our parent company Sierra Online, it never was placed into production, a mistake they later regretted bitterly. "Betrayal at Krondor" became one of the highest grossing games ever produced by Dynamix, and won numerous best RPG of the year awards.

Earlier this year I chatted both with John Cutter, the original producer and my co-designer, and of course Raymond E. Feist who owns the universe in which Krondor was set. Unfortunately Midkemia is tied up for the foreseeable future, but there's really nothing that prevents us from creating another Krondor-like game with the same great gameplay, the same great storytelling, and with the same creative team behind the original. Imagine BAK now with better graphics, a fully orchestrated score, a next-generation puzzle system, and lots of cool enhancements to the original combat system. Would that be a game you'd like to see? Are you willing to go in to help us make it happen?

Today we're asking all of you to throw down and show your love for BAK. Help us gather at least 5,000 signatures of fans who will pledge to either give $200 apiece, or raise $200 from among their friends, to go towards the production costs of a "spiritual" sequel to Krondor. There is no money obligation right now. All we want is proof that there are enough die-hard fans out there who really want this game. If you can meet that goal, we will initiate a Kickstarter drive to make it happen. Right now, it's all up to you.

I really liked the original game and would really like to help create the sequel, but 200$ for me is too steep. If it ever hits Kickstarter though, it's a must pledge for me.

As far as I can tell he's just testing the waters before he fires up the KS campaign. If he'll get 5000 fans promise him 200$ he'll know there is enough serious support out there and the whole endeavor is worthwhile.

Rob err... Neal Halford posted an update earlier on the Codex:

Quote:
Hi guys, Neal Hallford here. Just a couple of quick points of clarification on the comments above.

First, regarding "Betrayal at Antara". Neither I nor any of the rest of Betrayal's original team worked on Antara. It was made for about a quarter of the budget, and in about half the time that we made BAK. With this "sequel" you'll have the actual same guys behind it who made the first one, and that will make a big difference. I wrote the story for the original game, and I'll be back at the narrative helm for this one too. John Cutter designed the puzzles and the combat systems, and if anything, he'll be all the more awesome this time around.

RE the pixel-ly old graphics. Yeah, well it's been two decades since the original, so you can be sure that it's not going to look the way it did back then. Though I should say that at the time, we were considered cutting edge. Just goes to show you how the technology changes everything.

And RE the $200 comment. You aren't obligated when you sign the petition to do anything. It's purely a petition site. But what I'm looking for right now are the hyper motivated people who loved the original game, and who will be willing to either donate themselves or who are dedicated enough to say "I'll personally take responsibility to raise $200 for the cause". So that means, getting ten friends to donate $20 bucks, or a hundred friends $1 a piece. Getting us to the final goal is going to be a very tough hill to climb, so we'll need to know we at least have a core of people who will be out there banging the drum hard for us.

Also, regarding the Obsidian folks, feel free to drop a comment into their thread about us, but please don't bash them, and especially not on our behalf. They're really good guys. I've been friends with Chris Avellone for years, and he's supporting our efforts here. I would hope he'd never have his supporters do that sort of thing to us. We're a big creative community, and there's room for all tastes.

Thanks guys.

Doesn't seem like the petition is going anywhere. Seems like only 346 people signed so far and Neal Halford was looking for 5000 to get this party started.

Not entirely sure, but I think Neal had nothing to do with the second and third games. Hence his desire to make a proper sequel as he sees it. The first game was the real deal with the others being less successful.

Yes, esp. the story/dialogue are great. Movement controls are a bit messy though.

The deal with the petition is that Neal is looking for people who are in principle ready to pay 200$ for the remake. Supposedly this is his way to see if there is enough demand. The problem is that there is nothing concrete about his proposal. BaK was an excellent role playing game for it's time, but what exactly he is looking to remake (or continue in a sequel)?

He already approached Feist and was denied the rights to the setting. He would have done much better if he bothered explaining what is it he is actually proposing.
