she does look fake. her lips are iffy. it's nice and all... but i'd rather much prefer hl2 models updated and such. going for the whole realistic looks is so meh. you need some... unrealistic shit in 3d animation.

Wait, what? Of course she's not perfect, its a new technology. That is by far the most realistic thing I've ever seen. Of course there are artistic choices made by developers in current games, and that won't stop it, but photorealism is the ultimate goal, and this is by far the closest I've ever seen.

"Lifelike animation heralds new era for computer games"
Yeah right What they mean is "Lifelike animation will herald a new era for computer games in about 20 years, when consoles finally catch up!"

Indeed, the power of consoles decide the overall quality of most games these days, with only a few studios daring to make pc only titles.
Whenever theres a new console out that has random developer "P. Mol or other" come out and say something like "This game wouldn't be possible if it wasn't for the power of console X" then theres millions of pc's already capable of said power.

Those animations are really quite astounding, but the problem is it doesn't look photo-realistic. Apply those models with the rendering technique in the first video and I wouldn't know if it was real or generated.

We're on 2 totally different pages on that one. I think a game, like a horror or a murder mystery with photo realistic graphics would be insane amounts of fun. Not to mention how terrifying it would be.

True. For example, Condemned didn't have that good of a graphics (especially notice the low poly modes), but yeah, it had an amazing atmosphere and was scary as hell.

Are you actually trying to argue that photorealism does not enhance atmosphere?
I suspect WETA workshops would probably laugh in your face. Gollum was as artistic as they come, and he was photo-realistic.
Oh, I just realized that was a tad dicky. Mehbad.

If studios focus more on graphics, they'll ignore atmosphere and gameplay. they'll try to releasethe best looking game rather than the best playing.
If there's a 100% guarantee that photoreal graphics will enhance atmospehre and graphics then im all for it. but right now it just seems like it'll be a race to implement it, wow the public with generic titles that are vivid and then in odd years when it's a dead technology we'll see awsum games.

look at her lips when she talks. and when she miles. it's a dead give away.
It's like she has 3 different mouths
if you pause it at any given moment. looks photoreal... but the movement isn't.
Isn't fluid, real enough.
in the end the wireframe hides the flaws. if the whole vid was like that and they said it's just summin they added on top... i wouldn't have noticed the lil tings.

I didn't think her mouth was as big a give away as her eyes.
But even then, it still looks so real... I just watched it again and it blew me away. How good are those loose strands behind her head of hair... blows me away. Like a lot of times the loose strands seem so forced, this one seems so effortless, adding to the realism.

k seriously... in movies when someone dies it's lol and nice and if it's shot well and gruesome movie gets an r and if it's done super real people feel a little shocked. Y'know. Now imagine a violent shooting game with photo real graphics. Seriously... then i would agree when people start saying that games turn kids into psychos. Cause it'll look like you killed a real person. it's idiotic to say and shit. But games like manhunt, gta... are all violent as fuck but they don't look real. And that's why they're great. I think that we'll all get a lil sick minded if we played a game with photo real graphics and started shooting people... all around... i think we'd just get a lil sick minded from it. That's what scares me. Not to mention that a lot of kids can't distinguish reality from a movie. and if they start playing violent games w/ photo real graphics.... (dun say just dun buy these kids these games... parents will put anything in the hands of their kids just to shut them up) it cud just fuck them up lots.
I'm all for realistic looking games and such. but if photoreal technology makes its way to fps games or porn games or gta like games or anything other than adventure... i'll boycott it. Yah im that stupid. It's one step less from jerking off to pic at roten.com
Photoreal environments i'm all for. Photoreal destructive environments. I'm all for. But photo real models in violent scary games. no thank you. Unless ESRB becomes really strict.
