Ok bare with me cause i dont know how stupid this is gonna sound. Ive been dabbling with vista lately and wanted to try gaming on it.I installed Homeworld2 but says i need direct X 9 , i thought Direct 10 was backward compatible and was used when a game took advantage of it features.Do i need to like installed 2 direct X's or how does this stuff work.And if i want to run a newer game in dx9 instead of 10,is that possible or does this depend on being able to switch this ingame?All advice welcome

you need to run the directx runtime updater from ms http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&displaylang=en you will need to start the game in winxp sp2 compatibility mode. if it still wont work you will have to disable DEP because vista thinks the program is a security risk because the program asks for memory in a way vista doesnt expect. some people have no issues with DEP on though http://www.realtime-vista.com/administration/2007/04/disabling_data_execution_preve.htm btw you would have found thse answers if you simply google searched "homeworld2 vista"

yea it never hurts, i skipped homeworld2 when it was originally released and recently played it a few weeks ago for the first time, great game

Gotta pick that game up again. Loved it, but never finished it. 8 out of 10 dentists prefer zipfero to competing brands(fraich3 and Mutantius)!

i said i had never played it until a few weeks ago, i never pirated games back then and never had the urge to buy it. i did do alot of buy a game, write the cdkey down and clonecd it before returning them back to the shop though
