My bad for being away.

A few of my family members have been taken seriously ill, one terminally ill.
So I havent had much time to be on the computer.
And a very close friend of mine was hurt in an industrial accident.

It has nothing to do with anyone on here

So, again, i apologize if i offended anyone.

No one's offended unless there's something I don't know about. I don't know everything that happens here with people sms-ing, pms-ing, im-ing each other or what have you. Very Happy We're quite used to people disappearing and then reappearing. Actually when they do that, we say that they pulled a Syco. Razz So I guess you pulled one yourself.

I'm sorry to hear that... My only piece of advise is with the terminally ill family member I highly advise you spend as much time as you can with him/her it may hurt but you will regret it if you don't.

It's not like that. It's just a compulsory 2 week military course that i have to complete before i graduate university.

I'll have to wait till October to find out if i have to serve in the army or not. Even then, i'll just serve in a military hospital near my home.

Nothing too dangerous Razz

LOL at "poor farmers".

Everyone, no matter how important, is obliged to serve in the army. Whether you are called for service or not is purely a matter of luck.

And yes, i don't wish to serve in the army (no one does) cause i have better things to do with my life.

And just to add, i would instantly volunteer for duty in the event of a war.

The fact that you had the means to study in the university and postpone/ cancel your military service through this contradicts the situation of the poorer population of Egypt who don't have the same opportunities to "escape service". just wanted to point out that while you bitch about your government being corrupt and about the huge gap between the rich and the poor, in the same breath you take advantage of your rights as an "elitist" and state that you admire Che Guevara Wink .

University is free you idiot, only your high school grades determine whether you get into university or not.

And i don't "escape" military service, all university students are eligible for service.

Medical professions, like me, serve longer periods (3 years instead of 1) as we are conscripted as officers instead of soldiers.

So, stop posting crap Wink

And I'm sure everybody had the opportunity to study in high school in order to go to the university afterwards Wink
Maybe all the university students are eligible for service, but not everybody do it, like in your example.

Would you please cut the crap!

Education till high school is free and compulsory. University is free if your grades are good enough.

And i am eligible for military service and will be called for it, unless the army says that they don't need new recruits at the moment. It's a matter of luck.

Studying in a secondary school might be compulsory, but not everybody have the chance of really studying or getting good grades in order to proceed to academic studying.
That's what obligatory service is about, it shouldn't be dependent on the education or economic status of the man.

I feel the same way. I wont sign up for service but if a huge war ever broke out, or perhaps as WW3, I would for sure sign up to defend the rights of free nations you know?

I still think that we are heading toward a major war within the next 10 years or so

Sorry to hear the news. My uncle just got diagnosed with end-stage lung cancer about a month back ... they gave him a prognosis of 2 months without chemo and 6-12 month with (he is doing it).

sad as it is, at least when it doesn't happen suddenly you at least get a chance to say goodbye.
