|
 |
Quote: | After a recent bout of bad press – alleged mass product defects, competitive price cuts, and legal problems – two of Nvidia's largest partners have supposedly jumped ship to pursue alternate ventures with an unnamed company. The news follows the loss of Gainward, a company now fabricating ATI-based boards. While details of the supposed deal are scarce, it is known that the two companies, XFX and EVGA, are not defecting to rival GPU manufacturer ATI.
The reason for the two fabricators abandoning Nvidia seem to spawn from the company's tightening partner margins, and subsequently prioritizing its own margins above the health of its partners when trouble began. |

I wonder what this means...ideas?

Intel - They've stated they want to enter the GPU market. In fact they had a (confidential details) presentation here at work about it (Canadian Computer manufacturer). I suppose with all of Intel's financial backing, they could have some serious R&D. They've announced it publicly.
That or they've made a huge mistake and are joining forced with the niché of Matrox.

About Larrabee, Microsoft announced they won't move to ray tracing with DX11, something Intel's been pushing for long. So without that, I'm not sure there's anything that attractive about it at this point. Plus, it's expected to show up in 2010 at the earliest, so I highly doubt anyone would risk so much on something that far and undeveloped.

Yeah maybe Intel, they may have accelerated their work a bit on the Larrabee at the view of the latest dispute with Nvidia over SLI/Chipsets... eVGA and XFX may push both the ATi/Nvidia cards for the time being.
