|
 |
Quote: | n an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Microsoft Game Studios Europe Business Development Manager Peter Zetterberg has made some interesting comments about how PC and Xbox 360 games fit into Microsoft's business plan. According to Zetterberg, Microsoft needs to release titles for the Xbox 360 first to avoid cannibalizing sales of its own console:
On a global scale the Windows Vista business is as important as our Xbox 360 business. But in Germany for example, we want more gamers to buy our Xbox 360. If we launch a game that is on 360 and PC simultaneously, we basically shoot ourselves in the foot by allowing the German market to choose to play the PC version – because they are more likely to buy that than spend their money on the Xbox 360. |

Well i must say if it's a fps and i know it's coming for the pc then i am going to wait for it. If it's a car game then most likely i will get it for the xbox.

if all games did come out for the 360 a long time before PC then i would have to buy a 360 and get it flashed. at least i wouldnt have to worry about securom shit and waiting for crack's.
I woud NEVER buy a game for a console, prices are just too high.

So all it takes for Duke Nukem to finally hit the shelves is to go multi-platform and come out on the xbox360 instead of just pc

It was a strange business decision for Microsoft to ever get involved with consoles; it's created all sorts of problems for them.
Games are going to be relased on the XBOX first. Great, but who wants to play a PC game that's a year old console port?

Yeah, just take a look at Mass Effect. It made a huge fuss.

Yeah, I'd play them but I wouldn't pay for them. Those console ports (Halo, Mass Effect, Jade Empires, Fable, Gears of War, etc.) are so far below what a good PC game should be.

I've never seen a game justifying me buying a console. There's more than enough good games released for the pc as it is. If they don't want my money then it's cool by me. Take Halo as an example. I was really psyched about it, then they decided to release it for x-box exclusively. As time went by my hype for the game dissipated and to this date I've never played the game, and I can't honestly see myself doing it either as the technology is quickly becoming ancient.
Do I see M$ as an evil corporation because they maximize their profitting? Hell no! It's their God given right and in fact it's their duty to do so to their share holders. I would've expect the management of my company to maximize profit to the max. If you want charity go to Red Cross or your government.
Now, you can of course discuss whether MS dominance or ability to draw unhealthy synergies from their PC-console dominance at the cost of the consumers is ethical. It's not a very relevant discussion however. MS has achieved their market position by a) being good capitalists and b) having ignorant/weak competition-authorities in the US/EU. If you want to blame someone then blame your authorities for allowed MS to become too powerful in their market. They shouldn't be allowed to buy any more developers and the same goes for Electronic Arts. You can't blame a corporation in the western world for being capitalists though. You can't blame a company for trying.
I'm exercising my rights as a consumer by not buying a console. When MS eventually after a year decides to release something on the PC I'm not interested as it's yesterdays news. They loose money from this consumer. That is my right just like it's their right to be x-box exclusive if they like.
