Nothing that can be turned into a template yet.

Quote:
Need for Speed: Undercover is the next installment of the popular racing video game series Need for Speed, developed by EA Black Box and published by Electronic Arts. It is set for release later in 2008.[1][2] An official formal announcement is expected to be made in the beginning of July at the latest.[3]

Quote:
Development

Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello has stated Undercover has a considerably longer development cycle than its predecessors since the Need for Speed development team now is split up into two teams, both of which will work on a 24 month development cycle with future titles, alternating releases between them. When this change was implemented in mid-summer 2007, one team started working on Undercover (giving it only a 16.5 month development cycle), while the other team finished ProStreet (the previous release) and then started working on the next title in the series (coming out in 2009), which will have a full 24 months. He also confessed to "torturing" the development team in the past, discouraging innovation and admitted that ProStreet "isn't good" and he is confident Undercover will be much better.[1][2]

Riccitiello also stated Undercover is taking inspiration from action films such as The Transporter, with a large embedded narrative.[1][2]

Features

Frank Gibeau (president of the EA Games label) has stated that due to the fact that the sales of ProStreet didn't live up to EA's hopes for the game, the Need for Speed franchise will go back to its roots with a number of features, including open-world racing and a new highway battle mode.[4]

John Doyle (developer at EA Black Box) has hinted Undercover will feature a brand new game mechanic and a "Most Wanted-ish" sandbox style of gameplay.[3]

Yeah, Most Wanted wasn't bad at all actually. Had it not had the silly hip hop frat hose retard story, it'd have been my favorite, because as good as NFS:HP and NFS:HS were, racing against the cops in a city is just much much better. Porsche was great too, but it felt like Porsche porn, not a racer.

Loved NFS3, my absolute favourite. Of course NFS1:SE was super too. I disagree that NFS4 had 'maximum value', could've been an expansion pack to NFS3. Besides, NFS3 had a huge amount of modded cars and tracks that no other NFS ever had.

NFS:PU was also great for the handling on the cars.

What are you saying. That's what NFS is all about. At least IMO. Anyway looking very much forward to this one. Hope it'll be something like underground 2. And a lot of tuning. Maybe they borrowed ideas from Fast & the Furious hence the name.

That "new feature" - Highway battle mode - probably some sort of typical highway racing from point A to B. So, nothing new in terms of gameplay ?

NFS never was about the tuning and all that gangsta car crap. It's just a huge ploy to capitalize on the popularity of the first movie.

the only nfs game that was a real disappointment was Pro Street. And it really, really, really sucked more than any other game sucked before. Because you could actually feel that the graphics could have been the vehicle (sic!) to a greater experience but instead they were the shortbus to fucksville.

No.

[Proper] NFS has always been taking insanely luxurious cars (read: very expensive) to tropical and beautiful locales. It has never been about cars which one could affordably buy (read: cheap Japanese crap).

No, it doesn't Rolling Eyes Running away from the cops is fun. Painting your car in a dozen different colors, placing some stupid stickers on the doors and tinting your windows is boring.

@Leo
Yeah, so you would have non-changeable stock cars instead of cars that can be tuned. Right, that'll really be fun. And maybe they've chosen the "cheap japanese crap" because they're much faster, when tuned, than your average "supercar". But maybe you want another Test Drive Unlimited or some boring crap like that?

@DarkPassenger
Granted. But why not just have both

what are you a retard, flappy?

nfs idea was just as leo pointed out. it was AND should've been nowadays the same. just EA got new management just before HP2 who started a new money pumping machine tactic - do games based on popular movies

No, I don't think that I am.
Who gives a shit about what it should have been. My point is that stuff like open world and tuneable cars weren't part of the "original" NFS idea, but it's still better for it.
