but it shut downs after 5 seconds...
i just moved to new house. When I press power button, everything lights up for second then it turns off
but sometimes of not powering it up for couple of minutes, it powers up for about 10-20 seconds but i dont see bios or anything like it seems video card or monitor does not work, even it is connected
I had this problem about two weeks ago but it fixed itself the next day, no idea how
I guess its time to perhaps replace my power supply?

Sounds like the anti burn protection is kicking in. I'm guessing it's an Intel. Make sure the heatsink and fan are seated properly. When starting your machine, try pressing down on the heatsink quite firmly. If it lasts long staying on, I would say you need a fress application of thermal paste.

Powersupply issue? Try removing and swapping one component at a time until you find the problem.
Did you try resetting the bios jumpers on the mobo?

Yea, resset them but im pretty sure its power supply problem
i strip down whole components, just left one fan to see if it lights up and cpu... and when i powered it up, it shut down after 2 seconds as well
time for new psu, last one i had was overkill for current setup that i have, x2 4400, 7800gtx, 2 hdd, dvd drive and 3 fans and it was 535V

I've read the first post carefully, and it could be a CPU issue. If you have thermal paste nearby, try taking the heat sink out and reseating the CPU, then apply the paste and put the sink once again.

Another option is to try taking everything out of the case (I'm trying to exhaust all possible options before you run and waste money). Try running everything from a table. I had this few months back, I thought my CPU was fried. It turned out to be my case short-circuiting the motherboard.

What do you mean by short-circutting the motherboard?
I have also strip downl all the components except cpu and on one of the fans to see if it will work but same thing happens, it shut downs after 2 seconds WITH only one fan and cpu, nothing else connected

It clearly seems power related.... I'm sure a new PSU will clear up things.

The motherboard being short circuited by the case is pretty rare. I think if that were the case you would get no boot at all.
I'm 90% sure it's the PSU. Try stripping the rig to the bare minimum and swap PSU's and see if it works.

you know there is a way to test a psu right? disconnect everything from the PSU apart from one FAN , take a paperclip and grab the 24pin ATX connector touch the green and black wires with each end of the paper clip
its totally safe even tells you to do it on the corsair site
Quote: | : How can I test my power supply?
A: You can easily test a power supply for functionality with a simple paperclip. First, disconnect all the cables from your motherboard and other devices, but leave the power supply plugged into the wall. Next, bend the paperclip until you have a U shape. Find the 24-pin ATX connector and plug one part of the paperclip into the socket where the green wire ends, and the other end into the socket where a black wire ends. Make sure the power switch on the back of the PSU is on, (should be the I symbol) and the fan should spin up. If it doesn’t, your power supply may be bad.
If you’re uncomfortable with this, numerous online retailers sell “Power Supply Testers” that come in a variety of forms and prices. |

My PC booted and either shut down or stayed powered on with no bios boot (POST).
Besthijacker, all I'm saying is try taking the motherboard outside of the case with the PSU connected and boot.

I feel for you... :/ Well, you could take a cheaper one, just make sure there are good amounts of Amperes on the 12v rails.

"reuired"
@besthijacker, well it only has 2 12v rails, so if you start adding more devices, you could have some problems.
