I need to know if this will work -

I'm assuming I can use an HDMI to DVI cable to hook up the PS3 to my Samsung 226BW computer monitor. Right?

Now, is it possible for me to somehow plug in my Sennheiser PC 166 USB/3.5 headphones into the PS3 for IN GAME AUDIO (not the voice chat - the actual game audio). My monitor does not have any audio/USB jacks on it.

I'm oh so tempted to sin and get this console - but there is no way I'm spending $3-4-500 for a TV in addition to it. Would be great if I could use my current hardware with it Razz

Update - sinned and bought a PS3!

$325 for a brand new 40GB model with latest Blu-Ray player.
I outbid the other guy by $5 with ONE second left. Man the adrenaline rush.

Video ---> PS3 connected to monitor via HDMI to DVI cable.
Audio ---> Logitech 5.1 Game Console adapter takes the red and white ouputs, and allows me to plug in my 2.1 headset (though it supports up to 5.1).

5.1 Game Console Adapater

Total price when everything is said and done - $360.

Not too shabby Very Happy

Now get MGS4 and your set. Best game of the year. The game play, the story, everything is so sick about the game. Like I said, best game of the year

I can't decide between MGS4 and GTA4. I might just splurge and get both - but the guilt is really starting to set in for buying a console. I looked through the games, and apart from those 2, the rest look like utter crap (not counting the ones I've already played on my PC)

I'd say get both. I have both. GTA 4 is a fantastic game too. Really fun. But if your going for story as well as gameplay, then MGS4 takes the cake. But Im biased. I like tactical stealth games, especially the MGS series. My fav series of all time

Isn't it the case that the PS3 only outputs 16:9 HD resolutions? But your monitor is 16:10 so I guess your monitor stretches the 16:9 picture to 16:10 and you have a wrong aspect ratio, right? That would be too annoying for me. I can't live with wrong aspect ratios.

Doesn't bother me. I'm assuming it will be just like Assassins Creed whereby if you have it at 16:10 instead of 16:9 you get a little sliver black bar at top and bottom.

It was either this or shell out $500-800 on a decent TV. Fuck that Very Happy

I see we have another BSG fan Very Happy

u won't have black bars unless your monitor is 4:3 or 5:4
with 16:10 picture will be stretched which will result in incorrect AR

Yea, ok. So the head will be stretched a couple of centimeters. No big deal.
What the fuck is up with all these ratios anyway? 16:9, 16:10, 4:3 - jesus fuckin christ. They need to settle on one and make a worldwide standard - really ridiculous

On a LCD you will never have black bars because the PS3 would have to support your monitor's native resolution and add the bars to the 720p image accordingly. Otherwise the LCD automatically scales the picture to a full-screen image without bars.

I've read that there are some 16:10 monitors with a 16:9 mode you can switch on/off though. I would check if your monitor has such a feature Immunity.

The different 16:10 and 16:9 were created APPPPPAARRENNTTTLLLYYY from what I heard to accommodate media center PCs with the play button and shit in the black area of a widescreen flick.

PS MGS4 is the better of the 2 (GTA AND MGS). OH, and get ratchet & clank... game is just plain FUN.
