Now that I have taken the plunge and flashed a drive I was just wondering about the do's and dont's as far as burning the games goes..

I take it the media plays a big role, correct? For example, apparently the Verbatim brand is trusted. Should I flash the drive to a lower speed than 8x? What program should I use to create the DVD's from images? Clone CD?

Yah.. I know.. n00b questions.. but there you go.

flash with 12x.

only use verbatim +DL.

sometimes your drive matters (pioneer are the best, also among the cheapest)

use either imgburn or clonecd to burn images ... or in my case only xbox backup creator worked for me without getting coasters every now and then.

burn @ 2.4X.

most games are pre-patched with stealth bullshit, but you can check with XBC or xdvdmulleter.

make sure you use the included .dvd file or manually set the layer break.

that should do it Smile I'm pretty noobish myself ... just got an x360 a month ago but rocking with ~40 games downloaded and burned now. made close to 20 coasters along the way though Razz

Well, that depends. Even tho they are certified for 2.4x there are rarely any problems burning them at higher speed. With verbatim I always burn at 4x. But to be on the safe side I guess its smart to burn at 2.4x. But it fucking takes ages Razz (more like 40min.. but you get my point) Very Happy

Well it says 2.4x on my verbatims so why take a chance, the comp is on all the time and you can do other stuff on it while it burns or you can pick up the xbox and play.

If you don't have the .DVD file, you can;

1. Make your own using this template and save as imagename.dvd;

Code:

LayerBreak=1913760
image.iso << name of the downloaded ISO file

2. Set the layerbreak in IMGBurn (if that's your app) for 1913760. You can do this via the Settings>Write tab. Change from Auto and just type in the LB number.

Also, if I remember correctly, XDVDMulleter can create a .DVD file for you Smile

All in all, it's not an essential file. It's basically a CUE-Sheet that tells the burning app when to start the second layer. As long as you can tell the app how to do that, it won't matter if you have the .DVD file or not.
