This is the camera she wanted a while ago, its a little out of budget, but is there better for less?

Take a look at the Nikon D40, much cheaper and it's one of the best digital cameras on the market.

I have a Nikon D50 myself, and the quality is amazing

					| Now would be a good time to buy a 400D because they are now switching to the newer 450D, which only has a few improvements over the 400. (2 extra mega pixels, bigger screen and live view[!]) | |

					| Thanks for that post compubrain. That Nikon looks about perfect balance of value/quality for what she needs. 270 for an SLR camera is spot on. I am still on the fence with the Canon 400d however. I will see how much money I can scrape together ; this will probably decide more than anything.
