Whats up homies.

Ive decided on the gift for my GF's birthday; a digital camera. She was banging on about wanting one of crystal clear clarity for her artwork (take pictures of things pretty closeup, then oil paint them, to cut story short). I have around 180 pounds ($355 USD) and I have to use www.ebuyer.com since it has the delivery of gods and accepts paypal Smile

I have my eyes on the following :

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/133118
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/132874

What I/she wants is a camera that shoots CRYSTAL clear, no blur or shitty darkness. It needs to be top quality because she will be using it for work.

could nforce deliver some info?

I used http://www.cameras.co.uk/ last time I was researching a camera.

Fuji S8000:
Review
Test Shots

Panasonic DMC FZ18
Review
Test Shots

My cameras getting on a bit now, a Sony DSC2 12x zoom.
If you're getting an 18x - get a tripod! Wink

This is the camera she wanted a while ago, its a little out of budget, but is there better for less?

You can't beat a true digital SLR imo.

I couldn't afford one, so went with the Sony.

You want to be clear as to what kind of shots you want to take,
Eg; in the fuji review
Quote:
Macro
For close up shots the Finepix S8000 has a super macro mode. This allows you to get in as close as 1cm from the subject. The camera manages to produce a sharp and clear close up shot.

Just what you need for 'water on leaves' etc.

However, the Panasonic has it on full zoom and low-light.

If you want it all, you'll have to dig deep/save and get the SLR Wink

[Eidt] I almost forgot, use you favourite tool to find picturecode's 'noise ninja' (for photoshop).

Take a look at the Nikon D40, much cheaper and it's one of the best digital cameras on the market.

I have a Nikon D50 myself, and the quality is amazing Smile

Now would be a good time to buy a 400D because they are now switching to the newer 450D, which only has a few improvements over the 400. (2 extra mega pixels, bigger screen and live view[!])

Thanks for that post compubrain. That Nikon looks about perfect balance of value/quality for what she needs. 270 for an SLR camera is spot on. I am still on the fence with the Canon 400d however. I will see how much money I can scrape together ; this will probably decide more than anything.
