And if not, is it possible to switch the drive out with one that you can mod and spoof the Lite-on?

Hmm.. can I just swap the drive out as is and set the key taken from the liteon and that will be that? Or do I have to spoof the Lite-on? And if so, what would be a good starting point for me to read up on that?

Nah, it can be modded. Just not flashed normally like all the others. Guess its the same business as with the BenQ when it wasn't properly flashable.

ive modded one, used a samsung spoofed as a liteon. check out the xboxscene forums for info on how to extract the key and spoof the drive.

I also have a Samsung spoofed as a Liteon. But I've read we're not safe because the Samsung reports a slightly different SS than a Liteon would and the console probably expects the Liteon SS type because it knows it had a Liteon drive. I'm not really sure about all this, though. Maybe I misunderstood it or it's just some BS. We will see.... I hope it won't lead to any error codes. A ban would be bad enough but it's still better than a non-working console.

theres supposed to be a new version of the iextreme firmware coming out that spoofs the liteon properly, hopefully that will fix any future problem.

Hmmm... one thing I have been curious about.. When we speak of banning.. are we speaking of the old banning the console itself from live or are we expecting something more? Like banning your account or something?

they only banned console [hardware itself] so far
your gamertag and profiles stay intact, just connect your hdd or memory card to a different console and u should be fine
